During the War
of Liberation in 1971 a battle was fought between the Pakistan army and the freedom fighters resulting in the defeat of the Pakistan army and loss of a considerable number of Pakistan army. As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Ramganj has a population of 238,333. Males constitute 47.98% of the population, and females 52.02%. Of the total population, only 112,929 people are over the age of 18, meaning that more than 52.6% of the population is younger than 18. Ramganj has an average literacy rate of 45%, 12.6 percentage points above the national average of 32.4%.[1]
