L’Arche Mymensingh is a community where people with an intellectual disability (core member) and those who care for them (assistant) live, work and share life together. The communities are affiliated to the international Federation of L’Arche (means an ark), founded by French Canadian, Jean Vanier in 1964 in France. L’Arche is a dynamic example of how people with different intellectual capacity, s
ocial origin, religion and culture can live together. In Mymensingh community, founded by late Brother Frank in Taize community, we have three Nirs (means a house), Asha Nir, Shopno Nir are for males and Pushpo Nir is for females. The first core members, Shohaq and Riko were welcomed in September 2002 in Asha Nir. Since then, there 21 young adults with an intellectually disability who has no family are welcomed. The members live the spirit of L’Arche and sharing inter-religious life together. There are around 15 non-residential members come daily to join the Workshop and the Rainbow (young adult’s Day-Care), moreover another 10 members who are unable to come daily, are supported by visiting to their houses in locality by a team with core members and assistants.
