âOFFICIAL STATEMENT: Youth For Futureâs Call to the New Government and Declaration on Climate Policy
â
âDate: February 17, 2026
â
âFollowing the historic democratic transition through the February electionsâa path paved by the sacrifices of the July Uprisingâ "Youth For Future" extends its greetings to the newly formed government. As we enter this new chapter of Bangladesh, we expect the administration to uphold the spirit of the revolution by building a nation that is not only equitable but also ecologically sustainable.
â
âHowever, while we acknowledge this political transition, our message to the new leadership is firm and uncompromising: "A change in government must not mean a continuation of the same destructive climate policies." For too long, the energy sector has been a playground for looters and fossil fuel lobbyists. The previous regimeâs "Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan" (IEPMP) was a blueprint for climate hypocrisy, disguised under the false promises of "clean energy." As a frontline people-led movement, we declare our stance on the following non-negotiable points:
â
â1. Immediate Overhaul of the Energy Masterplan: The government must immediately scrap the fossil-fuel-heavy masterplan that prioritizes imported LNG and coal. We will not accept expensive and unproven "false solutions" like ammonia co-firing or carbon capture, which serve only to extend the life of the fossil fuel industry.
â
â2. Implementation of the 3G Model (Green Future): Our vision is a 100% Green Future. We demand a clear, time-bound roadmap to achieve at least 100% of our total electricity from true renewable sources solar and wind by 2041. Our energy sovereignty must be built on domestic renewable resources, not on the volatile international fossil fuel market.
â
â3. Accountability and End to "Capacity Charges": The new government must end the predatory "Capacity Charge" system that drains the national exchequer to pay idle power plants. We demand total transparency in all energy contracts and an immediate repeal of any "indemnity" laws that shield energy sector corruption from judicial scrutiny.
â
â4. Climate Justice as National Security: We were on the frontlines of the July Uprising to secure our future. That future is now under threat from the climate crisis. The government must treat climate adaptation and the protection of our coastal communities as a matter of national security, not as a secondary policy.
â
âLet it be known: "Youth For Future" will remain the watchdog of the streets. If the new government chooses to follow the same path of fossil fuel dependency and corporate appeasement as its predecessors, the people of this country will not hesitate to mobilize once again.
â
âWe did not fight for a mere change of faces; we fought for a change of system. Our struggle continues until climate justice is served.
