I read a news report that left me sitting in silence for quite a while.
The world sees a world-famous footballer—surrounded by applause, trophies, victories, and admiration. Those are the things that define him in the public eye.
But once the door of his home closes, he is no longer a # Superstar .
He is simply a father.
A father who wakes up each day hoping that maybe today his child will make a little more eye contact, express a feeling, or unexpectedly wrap tiny arms around him in a warm embrace.
The report described how his child's simple smile gives him the strength to keep fighting every single day. As I read those words, the faces of hundreds of children from my own clinic came to mind—along with the faces of their parents.
Every day, I witness stories like these.
Some parents wait for years, hoping to hear their child say "Mom" or "Dad" for the very first time.
Some dream of the day their child can feed themselves independently.
Others pray that one day the school will call with words of appreciation instead of another complaint.
The true value of these seemingly small milestones can only be understood by families who walk the journey of autism every single day.
We often celebrate people's achievements, but we rarely see the silent battles they fight behind closed doors.
Autism does not diminish a family's love. If anything, it deepens it—making it more patient, more resilient, and more unconditional.
As a Child Development and Autism Specialist, I have had the privilege of standing beside countless families over the years. I have learned that sometimes parents wait five long years to witness just five minutes of meaningful progress in their child.
Reading this footballer's story reminded me that no matter where we live in the world, the language of autism is the same.
A father's tears are the same.
A mother's sleepless nights are the same.
And a child's smile speaks a language that transcends every border and every culture.
Let us not respond to autism with pity, but with understanding. Let us replace judgment with compassion and support. Because behind every child with autism stands a silent warrior—a devoted father and an unbreakable mother.
This report reminded me once again that life's greatest victory is not lifting a trophy, but witnessing the priceless smile of your own child.

The day after wins the World Cup, I will retire from football. There will be nothing left for me to achieve. Then I will finally spend my time making kites with my own hands." These were the words of Spanish footballer .
But few people know the personal struggle hidden behind his success.
Cucurella and his wife, Claudia Rodríguez, revealed in an interview that their son has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder ( ). As parents, they admitted they were completely unprepared for this unexpected reality.
They recalled that when their son was born in 2019, he would wave his hands whenever music played at home. At first, they thought it was simply a joyful reaction. However, after enrolling him in school, they were often asked to take him home within just a couple of hours because he would cry continuously.
Cucurella said that watching his son struggle was one of the most heartbreaking experiences of his life. At times, he found himself overwhelmed with emotion and unable to hold back his tears.
Despite all the challenges, he never stopped fighting.
According to him, football is only one part of his life. The other—and perhaps the most meaningful—part is understanding his son's unique world and helping him grow.
The determination with which he faces tough opponents on the football field is the same determination he brings home every day as a father.
And in the
end, he says, his son's smile is what gives him the strength to keep fighting—both on and off the field
