Under the “Promoting Disability Inclusive Election Observation (PDIEP)” project funded by the European Partnership for Democracy, B-SCAN played the role of election observer for the first time during the 13th National Parliamentary Election of Bangladesh.

Through this initiative, 71 observers with disabilities closely monitored the voting process across 5 constituencies in 4 districts. This marked an important step toward ensuring the participation, accessibility, and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the electoral process.

In addition, a 4-member delegation from B-SCAN met with the Chief Election Commissioner today (19 May 2026) to share the findings and recommendations from the observation process, including the gap analysis of election laws and policies, accessibility of polling centers, and other key challenges identified during the election. The meeting included detailed discussions on the barriers faced by persons with disabilities in exercising their voting rights and the necessary measures to address them.

Ahead of the upcoming local government elections, B-SCAN especially urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take immediate and effective measures to make the electoral process more inclusive and accessible. Key recommendations included introducing postal voting, ensuring voting arrangements on the ground floor of polling centers, and allowing transportation support upon presentation of disability ID cards on election day etc.
