আমাদের এমপিই’২১ ব্যাচ এর ৩ ব্যাচমেটকে বহনকারী ১ নম্বর বাসটি লাইভ বৈদ্যুতিক তারের সংস্পর্শে এসে বিদ্যুতায়িত হলে যে নির্মম দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে, তা খুব অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে ঘটে যায়। ২৩ নভেম্বর, ২০২৪ তারিখে সকাল ৯.৩৮ (শেষ যখন নাঈমের মেসেঞ্জারে বার্তা দেয়) থেকে সকাল ৯.৪৮ (যখন যৌথ ও মাদরুর ৯৯৯ এ কল করে) এর মধ্যে ঘটে যাওয়া ঘটানাগুলো তৎক্ষনাৎ শ্বাসরুদ্ধকর কিছু মুহুর্তের জন্ম দেয় - মুহূর্তগুলো জুড়ে ছিল জীবন বাচানোর শেষচেষ্টা ও আতংক।
আমরা আপনাদের বিনীত ভাবে অনুরোধ করছি, এ ঘটনার অন্য কোনো বিবৃতি বিশ্বাস না করতে। এ ঘটনাকে কেন্দ্র করে অসংখ্য গুজব ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে, তাই এখানে আমরা শুধুমাত্র প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী দের দেয়া বিবৃতি তুলে ধরছি।

৬ টি বিআরটিসি ডাবল ডেকার (দো'তালা) বাস আইইউটি এর শিক্ষার্থীদের নিয়ে, আর ৩ টি মাইক্রোবাস শিক্ষক এবং কর্মচারীদের নিয়ে যাত্রা শুরু করে। শুধুমাত্র ১ নং বাস, যেটায় আইপিই'২০ ও আইপিই'২১ এর শিক্ষার্থীরা ছিল, সেই বাসটি বাদে বাকি সব বাস রিসোর্টে পৌঁছে যায়, বা রিসোর্টের বেশ কাছাকাছি পৌঁছে যায়। শেষ থেকে দ্বিতীয় বাসটিতে (বাস নং ৫) ME-A ‘23 ও ME-B ‘23 ব্যাচের শিক্ষার্থীরা ছিল।
জৈনা বাজার ইউ টার্ন টি পার হওয়ার ১৪ মিনিট পর, শেষ বাসটির রাস্তায় বিপরীত দিক থেকে একটি অটোরিকশা এসে পরে। অটোরিকশাকে জায়গা দিতে গিয়ে বাসটি একদিকে সরে গিয়ে সরু রাস্তাটিতে থেমে যায়।
আইপিই'২১ এর দুই শিক্ষার্থী মুবতাসিম রহমান মাহিন আর আলিম আহমেদ বাসের পেছনের দরজার হাতল ধরে মুখোমুখি দাড়িয়ে ছিল (আলিম দরজার বাম দিকে ও মাহিন ডান দিকে)। সাকিব এবং দিগন্ত সিঁড়িতে ছিলো, মাহিনের পাশে ছিলো যৌথ, রিদওয়ান, নোমান, মাদরুর। বাসটি যখন থামে, দুজনেই দরজার বাইরে উঁকি দিয়ে কী হয়েছে তা দেখার চেষ্টা করে। হঠাৎ করে আলিমের ডান হাত মাহিনের হাতকে স্পর্শ করলে সে মৃদু বৈদ্যুতিক শক অনুভব করে ও মাহিনের দিকে তাকায়। তখন সে বুঝতে পারে যে মাহিন পরিপূর্ণ ভাবে বৈদ্যুতিক শকের সম্মুখীন হয়েছে। মাহিনের বাম পা মাটি স্পর্শ করেছে এবং সেই জায়গায় আগুন লেগে গেছে। আলিম এবং জুবায়ের সাকিব, মাহিনের কাছে থাকায় তাকে বৈদ্যুতিক স্পর্শ থেকে দূরে সরানোর চেষ্টা করে। তারা মাহিনের হাতে, পায়ে ক্রমাগত লাথি দিয়ে ছাড়ানোর চেষ্টা করে। তখন সাকিব বলে উঠে - "এভাবে কাজ হচ্ছেনা। আমি বাস থেকে নেমে ওকে বাচানোর চেষ্টা করি।" - বলে সে দ্রুত বাস থেকে নেমে যায়। যদিও সাকিবের শরীরের নিম্নাংশ মাটিতে পৌঁছায়, তার শরীরের উপরিভাগ (মুখমণ্ডল ও কাধের ডান দিক) বাসের ভেতরের দিকের সাথে লেগে আটকে যায় ও বৈদ্যুতিক স্ফুলিঙ্গ ছড়ায় এবং সাকিবের দেহ পুড়তে থাকে। এই ঘটনাটি প্রত্যক্ষ ভাবে দেখে আলিম মানসিকভাবে বিধ্বস্ত হয়ে পড়ে ও বাসের জানালা দিয়ে বাস থেকে বের হওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়। কোন জানালা ব্যাবহার করে লাফ দিবে সেটা ঠিক করতে সে বাসের ভিতরে ঢুকে এবং বাসের ডান ও বাম দিকের জানালাগুলো পর্যবেক্ষণ করা শুরু করে। তখন সে বামের জানালা দিয়ে দেখে কালো জ্যাকেট পরিহিত একটি দেহ বাসের বাইরে রাস্তায় পড়ে আছে। দেহটির হাতগুলো দেহের সাথে লম্বভাবে ছড়িয়ে আছে। বাম দিকটিতে ততক্ষণে মানুষের ভিড় জমে গেছে দেখে সে ডানের জানালা দিয়ে বের হয় এবং মাঠে সে তার কাধের ওপর অবতরণ করে। আলিম সেখানে কান চেপে ধরে বসে পরে।
আলিম বের হওয়ার পর মাদরুর (এমই'২১) সাকিবকে সাহায্য করার চেষ্টা করে। সে সাকিবের মুখে লাথি দিতে শুরু করে এবং ৩ বার লাথি দেবার পর মাদরুর পিছলে বাসের বাইরে পড়ে যায়। কিন্তু তার ডান পা জুতাসহ বাসে আটকে যায় এবং মাদরুরের গায়ে বিদ্যুতের শক লাগে। সে আরেকজনের সাহায্যে বাস থেকে আলাদা হতে সক্ষম হয়।
রিদওয়ান যখন বাসের সিড়িতে ছিল, তখন মাহিনের দেহ বাস থেকে আলাদা হয়ে বাসের বাইরে পড়ে যেতে দেখে। সে সাকিবকে সাহায্য করার চেষ্টা করে, ততক্ষণে সাকিবের মুখমণ্ডলের অর্ধেক পুড়ে গলে যায়। সে দরজার নিচের দিকটায় পৌঁছায়। রিদওয়ান বাস থেকে নামতে অপারগ হয় এবং দেখে বাইরে যৌথ (এমই'২১) নাফিজ আলমকে (আইপিই'২১) সাহায্য করার চেষ্টা করছে, যে কিনা বাস থেকে লাফ দিয়ে নামার চেষ্টা করে কিন্তু তার এক হাত বাসে লেগে যায় ও বিদ্যুতায়িত হয়ে যায়। যৌথ একটা বাশের লাঠি ব্যবহার করে নাফিজকে ছাড়ানোর চেষ্টা করে যায় যতক্ষণ না লাঠিটা ভেঙে যায়। তারপর যৌথ ও মাদরুর মিলে ৯৯৯ এ কল করে, সকাল ৯.৪৮ এ।
বিবৃতি অনুসারে বোঝা যায়, দুর্ঘটনা দুই পাশের দরজায় একই সময় ঘটে। আলিমের দেখা - বাসের বাম পাশে পড়ে থাকা কালো জ্যাকেট পরিহিত দেহ - তা প্রমাণ করে।
বাসের সামনের দরজার দিকে ঘটে যাওয়া ঘটনার বিবৃতি দেয় আজওয়াদ আবিদ (এমই'২১), যে কিনা সামনে থাকা ৫ নং বাস থেকে আসে। সে বলে - "সবগুলো বাস ঠিকঠাক চলছিল। ৫ নং বাসও এই রাস্তা পার হয়ে যায়। তাই আমি বাস বদল করে ১ নং বাসে উঠে বাকি পথ যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেই। প্রথমে বাস ঠিকঠাক চলছিল, কিন্তু ৩০ সেকেন্ড পরেই বাস থেমে যায়। আমি বাস থেকে দাঁড়িয়ে বাইরে তাকিয়ে পরিস্থিতি বোঝার চেষ্টা করি। কিন্তু আকস্মিক বৈদ্যুতিক শক আমাকে এবং আমার পেছনে থাকা আরেকজনকে বাসের বাইরে ফেলে দেয়।”
এই ঘটনা বিশ্লেষণ করে বোঝা যায় - বাস টি কোনো খোলা বৈদ্যুতিক তারের কারণে বিদ্যুতায়িত হয়, যখন মাহিন বাস থেকে নেমে বাস থেমে যাবার কারণ বোঝার চেষ্টা করে - তখন বৈদ্যুতিক সার্কিটটি সম্পূর্ণ হয়। আজওয়াদ আবিদ ও আরেকজন শিক্ষার্থী যেই প্ল্যাটফর্মে ছিল, সেখানে ইনসুলেশন (অন্তরণ) ছিল না বলে তাদের শক লাগে।
তাসমিয়াহ্ জামান (আইপিই'২১) জানালা দিয়ে বাসের সামনের দরজার বাইরের জায়গাটায় তাকিবুর রহমান (আইপিই'২১) ও আজওয়াদ আবিদ কে দেখে। তাকিবুর রহমান চিৎকার করে মীর মোজাম্মেল হোসেইন নাঈম (আইপিই'২১) কে বাস থেকে নামতে বারণ করছিল। কিন্তু ততক্ষণে সে মাহিনকে বিপদগ্রস্ত অবস্থায় দেখে ফেলে এবং সাহায্য করার জন্য এগিয়ে যায়। নাঈমের পা মাটিতে লাগে, কিন্তু তার বাম হাত বাসের সাথে স্পর্শ করে। তার বাম হাত থেকে স্ফুলিঙ্গ বের হয় আর সে এক কদম হেটে হাটুগেড়ে বসে পড়ে। সে দাড়ানোর চেষ্টা করে কিন্তু আধবসা থেকে সে পড়ে যায় ও তার নাক দিয়ে রক্তপাত শুরু হয়। প্রথমে তার হাত শরীরের সাথে লম্বভাবে থাকলেও পরবর্তীতে শরীরের কাছাকাছি অবস্থান করে (আলিমের দেখা কালো জ্যাকেট পরিহিত দেহ টি ছিল নাঈমেরই)। তাকিবুর, আজওয়াদ, তাসমিয়াহ্, ইয়াসিন রাফি (আইপিই'২২) আরেকবাস থেকে এসব পর্যবেক্ষণ করে।
ঠিক এই সময় মাহিন এবং শাকিব পেছনের দরজার কাছে দগ্ধ হচ্ছিল। আজওয়াদ উপরে তাকিয়ে দেখে একটা বৈদ্যুতিক তার বাস কে স্পর্শ করে আছে। সে বাস চালকের কাছে গিয়ে চিৎকার করে বাস পেছাতে বলে। ঠিক তখনই সে আলিমকে ডান দিকের জানালা দিয়ে লাফ দিতে দেখে।
দিগন্ত বিপদের কথা বুঝতে পেরে চিৎকার করে সবাইকে বাসের ভেতর থাকতে বলে এবং নামতে মানা করে। কিন্তু নাঈমের অবস্থার কথা ছড়িয়ে গেলে সবার মধ্যে আতংক ছড়িয়ে পরে। সবাই বুঝতে পারে যে বাসটি বিদ্যুতায়িত হয়ে গেছে এবং পরিস্থিতি বিপদজনক হয়ে উঠছে।
যখন বাসটি নিরাপত্তার জন্য সামনে নেয়া হয়, আলিফ (আইপিই'২১) নাঈমের অবস্থা দেখে সাহায্য করার জন্য বাস থেকে লাফ দিতে চেষ্টা করে। সে পায়ের ভরে লাফ দিলেও কোনো কারণবসত হাঁটুর উপর ভর দিয়ে পরে যায় এবং মাটি তাকে টেনে ধরছিলো, সে নিরাপদ স্থানে পৌঁছানোর জন্য চেষ্টা করতে থাকে। শেষপর্যন্ত সে নিরাপদ দূরত্বে যেতে সক্ষম হয়।
পরিস্থিতি একটু স্থিত হলে সবাই বাস থেকে নামে। নাঈমের শরীর ছিল সামনের দরজার দিকে, এরপর মাহিন পরে ছিল পিছনের দরজার ঠিক সামনে, এরপরে ছিল সাকিব, যার শরীর থেকে পোড়া ধোঁয়া বের হচ্ছিল। আলিফ এবং নাফিজের তখনও জ্ঞান ছিল, আর তাদেরকে রাস্তার ধারে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। সেই মুহূর্তে নাফিজের মুখ থেকে ফেনা বের হচ্ছিল, সাকিবের মুখ আধপোড়া এবং চেনা যাচ্ছিল না। নাঈমের নাক দিয়ে রক্ত পড়ার দাগের চিহ্ন ছিল, আলিফ শরীরের নিচের অংশের যন্ত্রণায় কাতরাচ্ছিল এবং নাড়াতে পারছিল না, আর মাহিনের পা পুড়ে গিয়েছিল। সাকিবের মুখ পুড়ে যাওয়ায় এত ধোঁয়া বের হচ্ছিল যে মানুষ ভেবেছিলো বাসে আগুন ধরে গিয়েছে। স্থানীয় মানুষের কাছ থেকে শিক্ষার্থীরা তেমন কোন সাহায্য পায়নি। ৯৯৯ এ ফোন দিয়েও কোন লাভ হয়নি, তারা বলেছে “অ্যাম্বুলেন্সের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করা যাচ্ছে না।” একজন মোটরসাইকেল থাকা স্থানীয় ব্যক্তির সাহায্যে আমরা আক্রান্তদের নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য কয়েকটি অটোরিকশার ব্যবস্থা করি। সমস্যার তখনো সমাধান হয়নি। আশেপাশে কোন ভালো হাসপাতাল ছিল না আর সবকিছু শিক্ষার্থীদেরকেই করতে হচ্ছিল।
রিদওয়ান, এবং তার সাথে অনেকজন - ইফফাত(আইপিই ‘২১), সাফায়েত সামির(আইপিই’২০), রোহান অর্পণ(আইপিই’২০) আহত মাহিনকে এবং পাটওয়ারী(আইপিই’২০), নোমান(মেকা ‘২১) নাফিজকে নিকটতম হাসপাতাল আল-হেরায় নিয়ে যায়। সেখান থেকে দেওয়া একটি অ্যাম্বুলেন্সে মাহিনকে ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। ইফফাত তখন নাফিজের সঙ্গে থেকে যায় এবং পরবর্তীতে মাশফি স্যার, রাহাদ(মেকা ‘২১) এবং পাটওয়ারী(আইপিই’২০) তাকে এবং দিগন্তকে ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যায়।
নাঈমকে ঘটনাস্থলেই বাঁচানোর চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে, তার বন্ধু এবং সিনিয়র ভাই, জুনিয়ররা মিলে তাকে সিপিআর দেয়ার এবং মুখ দিয়ে শ্বাস দেওয়ানোর চেষ্টা করে। দুর্ভাগ্যক্রমে, সব চেষ্টাই বিফল হয়। নাঈমকে মডার্ন হাসপাতালে একটি রিকশার মাধ্যমে দ্রুত পাঠানো হয় কিন্তু পরবর্তীতে জলিল স্যারের ব্যক্তিগত গাড়িতে তাকে ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যায়, সাথে ছিল জয়(আইপিই’২২), আহমেদ ইমতিয়াজ ফাহিম(আইপিই’২০), জামি(আইপিই’২১) এবং সবার আগে সেখানে পৌঁছায়। ইসিজি করার পর, তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করা হয়। তার ঠিক পরেই মাহিন ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে পৌঁছায় এবং তাকেও ইসিজি করার পর মৃত ঘোষণা করা হয়।
সাকিব, যে মাহিনকে বাঁচাতে গিয়ে গুরুতরভাবে আহত হয়েছিল তাকে রাওয়াস, শাবিব, প্রত্যয় এবং সামিউর(সকলেই আইপিই’২০) একটি স্থানীয় ক্লিনিকে নিয়ে যায় (আনোয়ারা)। তার পালস পরীক্ষা এবং ইসিজি করানো হয় এবং তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করা হয় কিন্তু তারপরেও তাকে ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়ার পরামর্শ দেয়া হয়। দ্বিতীয় পরীক্ষার পরেও একই ফলাফল আসে, এবং তাকে দ্বিতীয়বার মৃত ঘোষণা করা হয়।
আলিফকে আহতদের মধ্যে সর্বশেষ হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। শেষে নাফিজ এবং আলিফকে আইইউটি অ্যাম্বুলেন্সে করে আহসানিয়া মিশন মেডিকেল কলেজে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়, নোমান, রাহাদ এবং আইইউটির দুইজন চিকিৎসাকর্মী সহ। তাকিব, আজওয়াদ এবং মাদরুরও স্বল্পমাত্রার বিদ্যুৎ শকে আক্রান্ত হয়েছিল, কিন্তু তৎক্ষণাৎ চিকিৎসা নেয়নি।
অন্যদিকে, বাস ১ এবং ৫ এর বাকি শিক্ষার্থীদেরকে মাটির মায়া ইকো রিসোর্টে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয় স্থানীয় যানবাহন এবং শিক্ষকদের মাইক্রোবাসে করে। পরবর্তীতে প্রাথমিকভাবে নারী শিক্ষার্থী এবং অপেক্ষাকৃত জুনিয়র ব্যাচের শিক্ষার্থীদের অগ্রাধিকার দিয়ে মাইক্রোবাসে করে আইইউটি পাঠানো হয়। এর মধ্যে ২টি মাইক্রোবাস ছিলো শিক্ষকদের মাইক্রোবাস, ১৫টি রিসোর্ট থেকে দেয়া হয় এবং আইইউটি পরিবহন কর্মকর্তা আনুমানিক ১৯টি মাইক্রোবাস পাঠান, এর সাথে একটি রেসকিউ টিম পাঠানো হয় যাতে কম্পিউটার বিজ্ঞান ও প্রকৌশল’২১ ব্যাচের ১০ জন শিক্ষার্থী আসেন। তারা গণমাধ্যমের উগ্র আচরণ সামাল দিতে এবং শিক্ষার্থীদেরকে যানবাহনে ওঠাতে সাহায্য করেছে। মাহমুদ স্যার, ইয়াসিন স্যার এবং আরশিল স্যার তাদের সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টা করেছেন শিক্ষার্থীদের রিসোর্ট থেকে সুরক্ষিতভাবে বের করার জন্য। অন্য লেকচারাররাও তাদের পক্ষ থেকে সাহায্য করেছেন এবং আমাদের বড় ভাইবোনের মত আগলে রেখেছিলেন।
আমাদের এই ক্ষতি অপূরণীয়। আমরা জানি না আমরা কিভাবে ক্যাম্পাসে আবার ফিরে যাব, কিভাবে ক্লাসরুমে ফিরে যাব। ২১০০১২১২৫, ২১০০১২১৭৭ এবং ২১০০১২১৮২ রোল নাম্বারগুলি আর কখনো ডাকা হবে না। এই শূন্যতা পৃথিবীর কোন কিছু দিয়েই পূরণ করা সম্ভব না। আমরা এখনো স্বীকার করে উঠতে পারিনি। সত্যকে গ্রহণ করা যে খুবই কষ্টদায়ক। মাহিন, নাঈম এবং সাকিব ৩ জন অসাধারণ মানুষ ছিলো - পরিশ্রমী, বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ, দয়ালু। তাদের হাসি, তাদের কণ্ঠ, তাদের অভ্যাস আমাদের মনে গেঁথে যাওয়া। আমরা শুধু এটুকুই দোয়া করি যে তারা জান্নাতের সর্বোচ্চ স্তরে স্থান পায়, কারণ তাদের তা-ই প্রাপ্য। আইইউটিয়ানরা তাদের ভ্রাতৃত্বের বন্ধনের জন্য পরিচিত, তারা তা প্রমাণ করে দিয়ে গেলো আর আমাদের জন্য রেখে গেলো পরীক্ষা।
The tragic incident of three of our batchmates of MPE’21 unfolded rapidly, beginning with bus number 1, which became electrified after coming into contact with a live wire. This event, which took place between 9:38 am (last time Nayeem texted in Messenger) and 9:48 am (Joutho and Madrur called 999) on November 23, 2024, led to a series of harrowing moments, filled with both desperate attempts to save lives and sheer panic.
We request you not to believe any other narration of the incident. There is a lot of misinformation spread around, but we are placing only the details given by the eyewitnesses.

There were 6 BRTC double-decker buses carrying students and 3 microbuses carrying faculty and staff. Except for bus number 1 carrying IPE’20 and IPE’21 students, all the other vehicles had reached the resort or were near it. The second last bus in front of bus number 1, carrying ME-A ‘23 and ME-B ‘23 (bus number 5) students.
14 minutes after crossing the U-turn of Joina Bazar, bus number 1 faced an autorickshaw from the opposite side, and while giving it side to pass, the bus stopped and got stuck in that narrow road.
Two students from IPE'21, Mubtasim Rahman Mahin and Alim Ahmed, were standing at the backside door holding the handles of the bus door facing each other.
(Alim on the left side of the door and Mahin on the right side). Shakib and Digonto were on the stairs and Madrur, Ridwan, and Noman were on the right side of the stairs. When the bus stopped, they both peeked outside of the door to see what happened. Suddenly, when Alim’s right hand touched Mahin’s hand, he felt a minor electric shock and looked at his face and saw he was completely under a current shock; his left foot was touching the ground, and there was fire. Alim along with Jubair Alam Shakib (IPE’21) made an effort to disconnect Mahin from the electric shock. They constantly kicked him on his hand and leg to save him. All of a sudden Shakib said, “It’s not working; let me go down from the bus and try to save him,” and rushed down. Though his lower part of the body reached the ground, his upper part of the body (right side of the face and shoulder) got attached to the bus facing inwards, and a spark created and started burning. Seeing this Alim got traumatized and decided to leave the bus using the windows. He went inside the bus and was checking the left and right windows to figure out where to jump and saw from the left window that a body in a black jacket was lying on the ground outside the bus, hands perpendicular to the body. The left side was already crowded, so he decided to jump from the right side and land on the field on his shoulder and stay there, covering his ears.
After Alim left, Madrur (ME’21) tried to help Shakib and started kicking on his face. On the 3rd kick, he slipped and fell outside of the bus; only his right shoe was stuck in the bus, due to which he got the shock and later got disconnected by someone’s help.
When Ridwan was on the stairs, he saw Mahin's body get disconnected from the bus and fall outside. He also came and tried to help Shakib, whose face was half melted and reached the lower point of the door. He also failed and jumped down from the bus. Then he saw Joutho (ME’21) was hitting Nafiz Alam (IPE'21), who tried to jump using both legs, but unfortunately his one hand got in contact with the bus and got electrified. Joutho, using a bamboo stick, tried to disconnect from the shock until the stick broke, then Joutho and Madrur called 999 for help at 9:48 am.
According to the statements, accidents happened on both doors at the same time; the black jacket body on the left side of the bus that Alim saw while escaping proves that.
Coming to the front side door narration, Ajwad Abid, a student of ME'21, came from bus number five, which was in front door. He said, “All the buses were moving fine, and bus number 5 also cleared the route, so I just hopped on bus 1 to complete the rest of the journey, and when I got on the bus, the bus was moving fine, but just after 30 seconds the bus stopped, and standing on the bus, I looked outside to see what happened, and a sudden electric shock threw me and someone else who was behind me outside the door.” Analysing the situation, we get that the bus got electrified due to some open wire while Mahin stepped on the ground to see why the bus wasn't moving, and then the circuit was completed. The platform where Ajwad Abid and another guy were standing was not insulated, and so they got the shock. Tasmiah Zaman (IPE’21) was looking outside the window near the front gate and saw Takibur Rahman (IPE’21) and Ajwad Abid outside of the bus. Takibur was screaming and telling Mir Mozzamle Hossain Nayeem (IPE’21) not to jump, but he had already seen Mahin and went to help him. His both feet touched the ground while his left hand had a brief contact with the bus that caused a spark in his left hand, and he went on his knees due to electric shock. He tried to stand and fight back but had a straight fall from half standing and started bleeding from his nose. Initially his hands were perpendicular to his body in shock and then came down towards his body (Nayeem was the guy in the black jacket Alim saw). Takibur, Ajwad, Tasmiah, and Easin Rafi (IPE’22) from the next bus witnessed this.
At the same time, Mahin and Shakib were burning in the backside door. Ajwad looked upwards and saw a wire contact had occurred just in front of the bus, so he went to the driver and screamed to take the bus behind, and at that moment he saw Alim jumping from the right side window.
Meanwhile, Digonto, seeing the danger, was shouting at everyone to stay inside the bus, urging them not to get down. But when news of Nayeem’s tragic fate spread, panic set in. It was clear that the bus had become electrified, and the situation was becoming more desperate by the second.
Once the bus was moved forward to safety, Alif, seeing Nayeem’s body, tried to jump down to help. However, he jumped on his foot but landed on his knees for some unknown reason, struggling to get to safety. He finally managed to crawl onto the constructed road, away from the danger.
As the chaos settled, everyone got down from the bus. Nayeem’s body was near the front gate, then Mahin’s body in front of the backside gate, then Shakib’s body with burning smoke. Alif and Nafiz were in sense and taken to the side of the road. At that time there was foam coming out of Nafiz’s mouth, Shakib’s face was half burned and unrecognisable, Nayeem had bleeding marks from his nose, the lower part of Alif’s body was in pain and he could not move, and Mahin’s leg was burnt. The smoke caused by Shakib's face and body burned was so much that people thought the bus was burning. Students received no significant help from the locals or anyone. Even calling 999 didn’t help; they replied, “The ambulance contacts are not receiving the calls." With the help of a local with a bike, we called for a few autorickshaws to take the bodies. Problems were not solved yet. There were no good hospitals around, and everything was done by the students only.
Ridwan, along with several others—Iffat (IPE’21), Safayet Samir (IPE’20), Rohan Arpon (IPE’20) took injured Mahin and Patwari (IPE'20), and Noman (ME’21) took Nafiz to the nearest hospital, Al-Hera. From there, an ambulance was provided, and Mahin was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Iffat stayed with Nafiz there, and later Mashfy Sir, Rahad (ME’21), Patwari (IPE'20), took him and Digonto to MMCH.
Efforts were made to save Nayeem on the scene, with friends and seniors administering CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Unfortunately, these attempts were unsuccessful. Nayeem was rushed to Modern Hospital by a rickshaw but later taken to MMCH with the help of Jalil Sirs’ private vehicle by Joy (IPE’22), Ahmed Imtiaz Fahim (IPE'20), and Jami (IPE’21) and was the first to arrive. After an ECG was performed, he was tragically declared dead. Just after that, Mahin reached MMCH and his ECG was also done and declared dead.
Shakib, who had been critically injured while trying to save Mahin, was taken to the hospital by Rawas, Shabib, Prottoy, and Samiur (all from IPE’20) to a local clinic (Anowara). His pulse check and ECG were done there and declared dead, but still they suggested taking him to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. After the second checkup, the results were the same; he was declared dead for the second time.
Alif was the last injured person who was taken to the hospital. Lastly, Nafiz and Alif were taken to Ahsania Mission Medical College by IUT ambulance along with Noman and Rahad, two medical staff of IUT. Takibur, Ajwad, and Madrur were also victims of minor electric shock; they didn’t take treatment immediately.
On the other hand, other students of buses 1 and 5 were taken to the Matir Maya Eco Resort using mostly local vehicles and faculty microbuses. Later, initially prioritising female students and then most junior batches, microbuses were filled and sent back to IUT for safe return. Among them, 2 of the microbuses were faculty microbuses, 15 were managed from the resort, and the IUT transportation manager sent 19 microbuses (approximately). Along with that, a rescue team consisting of 10 people from CSE’21 batch came to help. They were a great support in tackling the media and deporting students in the vehicles. Mahmood Sir, Yasin Sir and Arshil Sir tried their best for a safe departure from the resort. All other lecturers showed their support and stood by us like our brothers!
The loss we faced is unbearable. We have no clue how we will return to that campus and those classrooms. ID 210012125, 210012177, and 210012182 will never be called again. These voids can’t be filled by anything in this world. We are still processing. It is hard to accept the truth. Mahin, Nayeem, and Shakib were 3 amazing individuals—hardworking, helpful and kind. Their smile, their voices, and their habits are imprinted in our hearts. All we pray is that they get the highest place in Jannah because they deserve it. IUTian is known for its’ brotherhood; they have proved that now it's time for us.
