Founded in 1904, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) is the oldest and the pre-eminent trade organization of Bangladesh. Its membership roll encompasses leading commercial and large industrial organizations of the country, including public sector corporations and local as well as multinational companies. Presently, almost all major enterprises of the manufacturing and s

ervice sector are among its members. The Chamber provides a wide range of professional services to its members. The Chamber’s services, developed over a long period, are comprehensive and cover specialized areas such as taxation, import-export, tariff and non-tariff measures, investment, WTO matters and other national and international economic and commercial concerns. The Chamber maintains a secretariat manned by professional staff. It offers secretarial services to the Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF), the lone national level organization of employers in the country dealing with industrial relations, occupational safety and health, workplace cooperation, skills development, labor law and other labor-related issues. The Chamber’s policy recommendations and inputs related to ongoing reforms have gained wide acceptance amongst government and policy makers. MCCI has earned recognition at home and abroad by offering services such as issuing certificate of origin, through conducting economic research and sector surveys, offering trade and investment facilitation services, legal services, information management and dissemination, and with publications related to trade and commerce. The Chamber is represented in many Advisory Councils as well as Committees formed by various ministries of the government of Bangladesh. MCCI also maintains effective working relations with development partners, e.g., the World Bank Group, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Asia Foundation. MCCI has a long history of joint collaboration and corporate understanding. It interacts regularly with major international trade bodies and many private sector organizations located all over the world.

Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), in collaboration with Policy Exchange of Bangladesh (PEB) and supported by Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), organized a discussion session on “Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for Bangladesh” on 13 May 2026 at its Gulshan office.
Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Secretary-General and CEO of MCCI, delivered the welcome remarks, while Dr. Masrur Reaz, Chairman and CEO of PEB, also delivered remarks. Mr. Stephen Poh, Executive Director and Chief Economist of Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management (SIPMM), addressed the session. Mr. Hasnat Alam, Economist and Senior Manager at PEB, presented an overview of the PMI programme in Bangladesh and shared insights from the latest report.
Following the presentation, an open discussion was held during which participants shared their perspectives and observations. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from MCCI. Representatives from MCCI, PEB, MCCI member firms, and the media attended the discussion session.

Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) organized a B2B meeting with a 15-member trade delegation from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Pakistan, on 02 May 2026 at the MCCI’s Police Plaza premises to enhance bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Mr. Kamran T. Rahman, President, MCCI delivered the introductory remarks. The KCCI delegation was led by Mr. Muhammad Raza, Senior Vice-President, KCCI, and included Mr. Zain Aziz, Trade and Investment Attaché, High Commission of Pakistan in Bangladesh. The MCCI delegation included Directors, Mr. Syed Tareque Md. Ali and Mr. Golam Mainuddin, as well as Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Secretary-General & CEO. MCCI, in collaboration with Policy Exchange Bangladesh (PEB), organized a Business Climate Dialogue titled “Improving the Investment Climate: Why It’s Critical for the New Government Priorities and the Upcoming National Budget” on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, at the MCCI’s Police Plaza office. The dialogue brought together policymakers, business leaders, investors, and experts to discuss investment climate challenges and opportunities, informed by insights from the Bangladesh Business Climate Index (BBX).

The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), in collaboration with the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF), organized a seminar on “National Budget 2026–2027: Priorities and Perspectives of the Private Sector” on Sunday, 19 April 2026, at La Vita Hall, Lakeshore Hotel, Gulshan-2, Dhaka. The seminar aimed to offer practical recommendations to support a business-friendly budget, promote investment, and accelerate economic growth.

Kamran T. Rahman, President of MCCI, delivered the welcome remarks, followed by introductory remarks from Doulot Akter Mala, President of ERF. Hasan Mahmood set the tone, while Md. Shahadat Hossain presented the keynote analysis. The session was followed by an engaging discussion in which a number of MCCI members took the floor to share their views and recommendations on the upcoming budget. Dr. Abdul Mazid, former Chairman of NBR made detailed comments on the proposals.

Snehasish Barua presented a synopsis of the key conclusions, and the event concluded with a vote of thanks from MCCI. The seminar was moderated by Farooq Ahmed, Secretary-General and CEO, MCCI.

The event was attended by MCCI and ERF members, policymakers, economists, financial sector experts, and representatives from various media outlets.

We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Mr. Rubaiyat Jamil, former Director of MCCI and Managing Director of ICE Technologies Limited.

A distinguished entrepreneur and respected business leader, he made significant contributions to Bangladesh’s private sector, notably through his footprint across technology and industrial ventures. His dedication and vision will be remembered with deep respect.
