The recent discussions around Nipah virus outbreaks are a strong reminder of how critical zoonotic viruses are to global public health.

Nipah virus is a highly pathogenic, bat-borne virus associated with a high fatality rate, and currently no licensed vaccine or specific antiviral treatment is available. Human infections usually occur through contact with infected animals, contaminated food, or close contact with infected individuals.

As a microbiology student working with in-silico vaccine design and bioinformatics tools, I find Nipah virus particularly concerning due to its epidemic potential and limited therapeutic options. Computational and preventive research approaches can play a crucial role in improving preparedness against such emerging pathogens.
Strengthening the One Health approach—linking human, animal, and environmental health—is essential to reduce the risk of future outbreaks.
