Ultrawide bandgap (UWBG) semiconductorsโlike diamond, III-nitrides, and oxide semiconductorsโare enabling a new generation of electronics that can run faster and more efficiently under extreme voltage, temperature, frequency, and radiation conditions where conventional materials struggle.
In this talk, Dr. Haque will highlight the key roadblocks holding UWBG devices back today (reliable p/n-type doping, heat removal at very high power density, low-defect interfaces, and integration of dissimilar materials), and share how their lab is tackling them using an integrated workflow: advanced fabrication + emerging processing + defect/interface characterization + AI-guided modeling and experiment optimization. Dr. Haque will also cover ongoing projects on controlled doping routes for diamond and III-nitrides, low-resistance ohmic contacts, and improved thermal management using novel UWBG stacks. Furthermore, Dr. Haque will discuss about the MS and PhD opportunities at Texas State and how to apply for those opportunities.
Bio: Dr. Ariful Haque is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Texas State University and a core faculty member of the MSEC Ph.D. program. He brings both academic and industry expertise, including prior work at Intel in Logic Technology Development on next-generation semiconductor processes. Dr. Haque holds dual Ph.D. degrees from North Carolina State University in Electrical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering, along with graduate training in nanoengineering, and degrees in materials science and EEE (BUET). His research focuses on ultrawide bandgap (UWBG) semiconductors, supported by major NSF and U.S. DoD fundingโmost notably as a co-leader of the NSF CREST Center for UWBG Semiconductor Device Materials. He has published 60+ peer-reviewed journal papers and directs a growing research group of postdocs and graduate students.
