Urgent Concern Over the Safety of Bangladeshi Migrant Workers Amid Middle East Escalation
Centre for Humanitarian Research and Social Development (CHRSD)
The recent military escalation in the Middle East, particularly the joint strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran, has caused significant damage and triggered a dangerous wave of uncertainty across the region. Countries including Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait are now at heightened risk of retaliatory actions.
In this volatile situation, hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi migrant workers are facing severe risks. They are currently living under fear, insecurity, disruption of livelihoods, and lack of access to essential services such as food and healthcare. Reports have already emerged of casualties among Bangladeshi nationals, which is deeply alarming.
CHRSD firmly states that this is not merely a geopolitical conflict it is a serious humanitarian crisis where innocent migrant workers are the most vulnerable victims.
Our Urgent Calls:
The Government of Bangladesh must immediately strengthen diplomatic engagement with concerned countries
A comprehensive database of at-risk migrants must be prepared, with evacuation plans in place
Emergency support including hotlines, shelter, and medical aid must be ensured
The international community, especially the United Nations, must take immediate and effective action
We emphasize that Bangladeshi migrant workers are not just economic contributors—they are the backbone of the national economy. Their safety cannot be ignored.
CHRSD calls upon all stakeholders to act responsibly, urgently, and decisively.
