On 5 October 2026, Kaan Pete Roi joined the Counseling & Wellbeing Center of North South University to observe World Su***de Prevention Day through "Circle of Care," a day focused on how a campus community can build a supportive ecosystem for its students.
The day opened with our workshop, "Start the Conversation: Save Lives," attended by around 230 students. Facilitated by Rubina Jahan and Ashik Abdullah, the session covered how to notice when someone is struggling, how to offer them a safe space to talk, and how to guide a person toward help. In line with this year's global theme, "Changing the Narrative on Su***de," we also talked about breaking the silence and stigma that keep people from seeking support.
The second part of the day was the Certificate Award Ceremony for the Mental Health Preliminary Response (MH-PR) program. Over the past year, Kaan Pete Roi worked closely with the NSU Counseling & Wellbeing Center to train and mentor 12 students. They will now serve as first responders on campus, offering emotional support to their peers and connecting them to referral pathways when further help is needed. Most young people in distress turn to a friend first. By choosing to be that friend, these students are helping build a campus where no one has to struggle alone. We are proud of each one of them.
We are grateful to Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Honorable Vice-Chancellor; Professor Dr. Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; and Professor Dr. Abdul Khaleque, Proctor, for their presence and support. Our Director, Rubina Jahan, joined as Special Guest. Special thanks to the NSU Counseling & Wellbeing Center for initiating this program and leading the effort.
We look forward to continuing this partnership and building a campus where asking for help is seen as strength.
