The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in Bangladesh has a wide scope of activities ranging from volunteers recruitment to resource mobilization, from advocacy campaigns on MDGs and Human Rights to training, from research to project design, from UN system support to partnership building and emergency response.

আছে স্বেচ্ছাসেবক নিয়োগ প্রদান থেকে শুরু করে সম্পদ সংগ্রহ ও ব্যাবহার, সহস্রাব্দ উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রা এবং মানবাধিকার এর উপর পরামর্শ এবং শিক্ষা প্রদান, গবেষণা থেকে শুরু করে পরিকল্পনা, জাতিসংঘ ব্যাবস্থাপনা সহায়তা থেকে শুরু করে অংশীদারিত্ব নির্মাণ এবং জরুরী প্রতিক্রিয়া প্রদান।

We welcome our new UN Volunteer, Ms. Asako Kito who recently joined UNFPA Bangladesh as an International Midwife Mentor.

In this role, she will support UNFPA’s humanitarian response efforts, with a particular focus on midwife mentorship and capacity building in the Rohingya refugee camps and host communities in Cox’s Bazar.

Asako is a nurse-midwife with experience in maternal and reproductive health. She began her career in Japan as a clinical midwife, providing individualized care throughout pregnancy, labour and birth, including natural, epidural-assisted and caesarean section deliveries, as well as postpartum care.

Most recently, she served at an NGO clinic in Nicaragua as a midwife and reproductive health educator through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Volunteer Program.

She holds a Master’s degree in Midwifery and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science.

Asako shared “I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of vulnerable mothers and newborns in humanitarian settings by drawing on my knowledge and experience. I also look forward to growing professionally alongside such a dedicated and inspiring team.”

Join us in welcoming our new UN Volunteer, Mr. Shohel rana who joined UNICEF Bangladesh as a Partnership Officer in Dhaka.

He will support the team in managing and monitoring partnerships with civil society organizations, ensuring compliance, strengthening financial assurance processes and enhancing data-driven decision-making.

Shohel worked as a Technical Specialist in a Partnership Officer role with Save the Children International in Cox's Bazar. Prior to that, he served as a Documentation and Advocacy Officer at DASCOH Foundation, English Trainer at BRAC and Coordinator for Teacher Development in English in Action project led by Mott MacDonald Netherlands in Bangladesh.

He holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from University of Rajshahi.

Shohel shared, “I am excited and inspired to join the UNV family, where I hope to transform my passion for volunteering into meaningful impact and lasting contributions.”

Please welcome Mr. Hasan Ahmed, who joined UNOPS Bangladesh as a Business Development Associate in Dhaka.

He will support strategic partnerships by conducting donor mapping and coordinating engagement events.

Previously, he worked as a Technical Lead at Maskeeters Idea Limited and as Manager of Environment Sustainability and MEAL at BPCL (Bangladesh Petrochemical Company Limited). Prior to that, Hasan worked for the UNOPS PLEASE Project Bangladesh as a Technical Expert – Environment.

He holds a Professional Master's degree in Soil, Water and Environment from the University of Dhaka and a Bachelor's degree in Leather Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology.

Hasan shares, “Proud to join UNOPS Bangladesh as a UN Volunteer and eager to contribute my skills and experience towards creating meaningful and lasting impact for communities across Bangladesh"

UN Volunteers in Cox’s Bazar came together in a Townhall Meeting with the Regional Manager UNV Asia & the Pacific Mr. Christian Hainzl. In an interactive session, the volunteers shared their experiences of staying motivated while serving communities in one of the world’s most complex humanitarian responses.

The Regional Manager highlighted how UNV offers a unique platform to build versatile skills, purpose and professional growth, empowering volunteers to grow as professionals while making a real difference.

The discussion reflected the voices and aspirations of a diverse team of 30+ UN Volunteers currently contributing their skills to the Rohingya humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar.
