Workshop with Potential Investment Partners for Eco-Friendly Business under Sustainable Finance: A Milestone for the Bamboo Sector

On March 5, 2025, a groundbreaking workshop was organized as part of the Business Incubation Support for selected incubatees of the Bamboo Sector Business Entrepreneurs under the Innovation Challenge Fund of the Bamboo for Climate Action (B4CA) Project. The event, facilitated by GreenTech Foundation Bangladesh, brought together key stakeholders to explore collaborative opportunities in the bamboo sector under the umbrella of Sustainable Finance.

The B4CA Project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development & Cooperation (SDC) and jointly implemented by CNRS and iDE Bangladesh. The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between bamboo-based eco-friendly businesses and potential investors, fostering a sustainable ecosystem for climate action and economic growth.

Key Highlights of the Workshop

The event saw participation from representatives of banks, financial institutions, microfinance institutions, venture investment companies, investment firms, development organizations, and local business chambers. The diverse participation underscored the growing interest in sustainable finance and the bamboo sector's potential to drive climate-friendly economic development.

The workshop began with a keynote presentation by Mr. Lutfor Rahman, Executive Director & CEO of GreenTech Foundation Bangladesh, who highlighted the importance of sustainable finance in supporting eco-friendly bamboo based businesses.

Khondkar Morshed Millat, Former Director of the Sustainable Finance Department at Bangladesh Bank and Advisor to GreenTech Foundation Bangladesh, led the discussion. Dr. Touhidul Alam Khan, former Managing Director and CEO of National Bank, Standard Bank, and Premier Bank, shared his extensive experience in SME and microfinance sectors.

Dr. Zia Uddin Ahmed, Chairman at Venture Investment Partners Bangladesh and Managing Director at Small Enterprise Assistance Funds, highlighted his 27 years of experience in development finance and SME growth.

Mr. Mahbubuzzaman, CEO of A2Z Capital Limited, and Mr. AQM Kibria, former Managing Director of BASIC Bank Limited, contributed their expertise in banking and investment, emphasizing the potential of the bamboo sector.

Mr. Soeb Iftekhar, Associate Director Program at iDE Bangladesh, introduced the Bamboo for Climate Action Project and the Innovation Climate Fund. The workshop concluded with a speech by Krishibid Md. Afzal Hossain Bhuiyan, Head of Strategic Partnership at iDE Bangladesh.
