BUP Literature & Drama Club is pleased to announce one of the key segments of BUP Litfest 9.0: the Student Research Conference on Language, Literature and Cultural Studies, titled “𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 & 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬,” bringing together students and literature and culture enthusiasts to explore how language, literature, and culture respond to an age marked by conflict, transformation, and uncertainty.
■ 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞: Language, Literature & Culture in an Age of Crisis
In an age marked by war, displacement, ecological crisis, political and social tensions, rapid technological change, and shifting identities, language, literature, and culture remain crucial sites where crises are narrated, negotiated, resisted, and reimagined. Questions of who can speak, whose stories are heard, which languages and cultural forms are valued, and how identities and histories are represented have become increasingly significant.
The student conference “Contested Expressions: Language, Literature & Culture in the Age of Crisis” invites students and emerging scholars to explore the ways in which texts, languages, and cultural practices engage with moments of conflict, transformation, uncertainty, and possibility.
The idea of “contested expressions” can be understood in a broader lens as struggles over language and meaning, representation and identity, memory and history, authority and resistance, tradition and innovation, as well as silence and voice. Likewise, the term “crisis” may refer not only to catastrophical events but also to moments of rupture and transition that generate new forms of expression, interpretation, and cultural imagination.

• Colonialism, postcolonialism, decoloniality, Indigenous and subaltern voices
• Memory, history, archives, testimony, heritage, and cultural erasure
• Literature of war, conflict, migration, exile, displacement, trauma, and resistance
• Gender, race, class, ethnicity, religion, disability, and representation
• Censorship, banned texts, freedom of expression, silence, and literary controversy
• Translation, translingualism, world literature, and cultural negotiation
• Poetry, fiction, drama, graphic narratives, speculative fiction, life writing, and emerging genres
• Film, theatre, performance, music, folklore, visual culture, and everyday cultural practices
• Feminist, Marxist, postcolonial, q***r, psychoanalytic, trauma, disability, and other critical approaches
• Climate crisis, ecocriticism, environmental humanities, and posthumanism
• Digital culture, social media, popular culture, misinformation, and online identities
• Artificial intelligence, authorship, creativity, machine translation, and the future of language
• Language and literature pedagogy, ELT, digital learning, AI, and changing classrooms
• Comparative, interdisciplinary, multilingual, and Global South perspectives
■ 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬:
We invite researchers to submit an abstract within 250 words, along with 3–5 keywords. Abstracts should mention clear Title, Author name, objectives, methods , findings and conclusion. Abstracts containing significant grammatical or language errors may be subject to rejection. Participants are requested to provide their email address and phone number along with the abstract.
Abstract Submission Deadline: 15th October, 2026.
Notification of Acceptance: 20th October, 2026.
Registration Deadline: 23th October, 2026
Conference Date: 31st October, 2026
