Inception Meeting on the Future of South Asian Climate Diplomacy

The Inception Meeting on “Co-designing the Future of South Asian Climate Diplomacy” was organised by the South Asian Regional Climate Cooperation (SARCC), with Human Safety Foundation (HSF) as one of the partners of this important initiative.

M A Muqit, Chairman of Human Safety Foundation, delivered a speech highlighting critical public health and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) challenges in the region. He emphasised the need for stronger regional cooperation to address these interconnected challenges and stressed that collective and effective action is essential for building a climate-resilient South Asia.

Today, Human Safety Foundation (HSF) marked its Foundation Day with a small, simple gathering, held with humbleness and gratitude.

As you know, our anniversary was on the 17th of August. Due to time constraints and the difficulty of bringing everyone together, we were respectfully unable to celebrate on the day itself, and so we gathered a little later instead.

Over these 17 years, so many people have generously given their time, effort, and belief to this journey, and we would have been truly honored to have every one of them with us today. We sincerely regret that this was not possible, and we hope for their understanding.

Even so, it was a warm and heartfelt gathering — full of memories, quiet reflection, and hope for what lies ahead.

We sincerely hope that next time, we will have the opportunity to bring everyone together on a larger scale — a celebration that truly honors this journey and everyone who has walked it with us.

There will always be challenges and turning points ahead. We humbly hope that HSF will continue to move forward, with purpose and with strength.

To everyone who has been a part of this journey — thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

আজ Human Safety Foundation (HSF) একটি ছোট, সাদামাটা আয়োজনের মধ্য দিয়ে তাদের প্রতিষ্ঠাবার্ষিকী উদযাপন করেছে।

আপনারা জানেন, আমাদের প্রকৃত প্রতিষ্ঠাদিবস ১৭ আগস্ট। সময়ের সীমাবদ্ধতা ও সবাইকে একত্র করার জটিলতার কারণে আমরা যথাযথভাবে সেই দিনে উদযাপন করতে পারিনি, তাই কিছুটা দেরিতে ছোট পরিসরে এই আয়োজন হয়েছে।

এই ১৭ বছরের পথচলায় অসংখ্য মানুষ আন্তরিকভাবে তাঁদের সময়, শ্রম ও বিশ্বাস দিয়ে HSF-কে গড়ে তুলেছেন, এবং আজ তাঁদের প্রত্যেকেই আমাদের পাশে থাকলে আমরা সত্যিকার অর্থে সম্মানিত বোধ করতাম। এটি সম্ভব না হওয়ায় আমরা আন্তরিকভাবে দুঃখিত, এবং আশা করি তাঁরা বিষয়টি বুঝবেন।

তা সত্ত্বেও, আয়োজনটি ছিল উষ্ণতা ও আন্তরিকতায় ভরা — স্মৃতি, নিভৃত উপলব্ধি আর আগামী দিনের প্রত্যাশায় পরিপূর্ণ।

আমরা আন্তরিকভাবে আশা রাখি, পরবর্তীতে আমরা আরও বড় পরিসরে সবাইকে একসাথে নিয়ে উদযাপনের সুযোগ পাব — এমন একটি আয়োজন, যা সত্যিকার অর্থে এই যাত্রার এবং এর সাথে জড়িত সবার প্রতি সম্মান প্রকাশ করবে।

সামনে চ্যালেঞ্জ ও চড়াই-উতরাই থাকবেই। আমরা বিনম্রভাবে আশা করি, HSF লক্ষ্য ও শক্তি নিয়ে এগিয়ে যাবে।

যাঁরা এই যাত্রার অংশ হয়েছেন, তাঁদের প্রতি আমাদের অন্তর থেকে কৃতজ্ঞতা।

About the Role:

Human Safety Foundation (HSF) is seeking a qualified General Physician to provide primary medical consultations and community health support in the project areas listed below.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide medical consultations and issue prescriptions during camp hours, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, six days a week (Saturday–Thursday).
• Refer patients to specialized healthcare providers when necessary.
• Raise awareness of common and prevalent community health issues.
• Compile and submit monthly reports to the Project Coordinator.

Project Areas:
• Narail District: 10 unions of Lohagara Upazila
• Manikganj District: 10 unions of Harirampur Upazila

Unions may be subject to change under special circumstances.

Educational Qualifications:

• MBBS degree from a recognized, government-approved medical institution.
• Registration with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) is required; the registration number must be submitted at the time of joining.
• Additional training or certification in general practice will be considered an asset.

Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Fresh graduates and female candidates are warmly encouraged to apply.

Candidate Preference:
• Preference will be given to candidates from the local region with a strong understanding of the local dialect.

Happy Foundation Day to HSF
17 Years. One Mission.

It began in Suhrawardy Udyan, near Dhaka University — where a small group of university students noticed children selling flowers and chocolates on the street, with no path to school and no room to dream.

They believed every child deserved both. So, in 2009, they started teaching voluntarily, right there in the park.

That simple act of showing up became Human Safety Foundation — now working across Education, Health, Climate Action and Women Empowerment.

Same spirit. 17 years on.

When Financial Strain Becomes a Barrier to Learning.

For a child, school doesn't disappear at all at once. It slips away in small moments — a torn exercise book that isn't replaced, a day of absence to assist household work, a quiet decision not to ask for tiffin expenses again.

Long before a child formally leaves the classroom, financial pressure can already be doing its work — pulling at attendance, at study time, at the materials a lesson needs, at the confidence it takes away to raise a hand and ask a question.

Families facing this pressure aren't willingly making their children fail. They're bound to make hard choices with limited options — and those choices deserve to be understood, not judged.

At Human Safety Foundation (HSF), we see this pattern often in our E4BL Project work — and we believe recognizing it early is the first step toward keeping a child connected to learning.

If we know a family navigating this, the first attempt we can do is simple - ask them what's making school hard right now and help them find one realistic way to keep that connection alive.

আর্থিক টানাপোড়েন যখন শিক্ষার অন্তরায় -

একটি শিশুর কাছ থেকে স্কুলটি হঠাৎ করে হারিয়ে যায় না। এটি হারিয়ে যায় ছোট ছোট মুহূর্তে - ছেঁড়া খাতাটা আর নতুন করে কেনা হয় না, একদিন গৃহস্থালির কাজে সাহায্য করতে গিয়ে স্কুল কামাই হয়, টিফিনের জন্য আর টাকা চাইতে ইচ্ছে করে না।

শ্রেণিকক্ষ পুরোপুরি ছেড়ে যাওয়ার অনেক আগে থেকেই আর্থিক চাপ নিঃশব্দে তার কাজ করে যায় - উপস্থিতি কমিয়ে দেয়, পড়াশোনার সময় কেড়ে নেয়, প্রয়োজনীয় উপকরণ জোগাড় করা কঠিন করে তোলে, এমনকি ক্লাসে হাত তুলে প্রশ্ন করার আত্মবিশ্বাসটুকুও কেড়ে নেয় ধীরে ধীরে।

যেসব পরিবার এই চাপের মুখে পড়ে, তারা তাদের সন্তানদের ইচ্ছে করে থামিয়ে দিতে চান না। সীমিত সামর্থ্যের কারণেই তাদের কঠিন সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে হয় - আর এই বিষয়টি শুধু বাস্তবতা দিয়ে বিচার করা যায় না, বোঝাপড়ার দাবি রাখে।

Human Safety Foundation (HSF)-এ, আমাদের E4BL প্রকল্পের কাজে আমরা প্রায়ই এই চিত্র দেখি - আর আমরা বিশ্বাস করি, সময় থাকতে এই লক্ষণগুলো চিহ্নিত করতে পারাই একটি শিশুকে শিক্ষার সাথে যুক্ত রাখার প্রথম ধাপ।

আমার আপনার আশেপাশে যদি এমন কোনো পরিবার থাকে, তাহলে সবার আগে আমরা এই কাজটি করতেই পারি - জিজ্ঞেস করতে পারি, স্কুলে যাওয়াটা তাদের জন্য কেন কঠিন হয়ে উঠছে, আর তাদের পাশে দাঁড়াতে পারি একটি বাস্তবসম্মত উপায় খুঁজে বের করতে।

Education Is a Right. NOT a Privilege.

If we ask a child in an underserved community what they want to be when they grow up, we usually get an answer straight away. The answers are often familiar: a doctor, a police officer, a teacher, an engineer.

The hard part isn't the dream. It's staying in school long enough to reach towards the destination.

For many of these children, every school year is a negotiation — with poverty, with a workshop owner offering wages the family badly needs, with relatives who think a daughter is better off married, with friends who left school last year and say it wasn't worth it anyway. Sometimes it's simply that no one at home ever finished school themselves, so no one knows what's being lost when a child stops going to school.

At Human Safety Foundation (HSF), HSF NGO, we've experienced that getting a child admitted to school is probably the most easy part. The real work starts afterwards — making sure they're still there after six months, that they understand what's being taught and that the pressures at home haven't quietly won.

That's what our Education for Better Life (E4BL) project is built around. Not just enrolment, but everything that keeps a child in the classroom: conversations with parents who need convincing, support when they are running out of educational materials, a space where a child can grow in confidence instead of shrinking under what's expected of them.

Every child deserves the chance to choose school over a workshop floor. Learning over silence. Confidence over fear.

Education isn't only a right. It's one of the strongest forms of protection we can give a child.
