RMMRU deeply thanks the Honourable Speaker and the Honourable Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament for facilitating the formation of the Parliamentary Caucus on Climate Change and Displacement. This remarkable initiative will ensure Members of Parliament’s leadership in addressing climate-induced displacement in Bangladesh and raising their voices for affected people in regional and global fora.

Since the adoption of the National Strategy on Internal Displacement in 2021, RMMRU has been advocating for the formation of the Parliamentary Caucus on Climate Change and Displacement. Once this new government was formed, RMMRU took the opportunity to pursue the advocacy with the then Honourable Acting Speaker of Parliament, Barrister Kayser Kamal. We are ecstatic that within two months, the National Parliament has proactively acted on this and formed the Caucus. We believe this significantly advances the cause of displacement.

নরসিংদীতে নারী উদ্যোক্তাদের ব্যবসা শুরু ও সম্প্রসারণে ৮ জনের মাঝে অনুদানের চেক বিতরণ করা হয়েছে। প্রশিক্ষণের পাশাপাশি আর্থিক সহায়তার মাধ্যমে নারী অভিবাসী ও অভিবাসী পরিবারের নারী সদস্যদের স্বাবলম্বী করে তোলার উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে রামরুর ‘সফল’ প্রকল্প।

বুধবার জেলা কর্মসংস্থান ও জনশক্তি অফিস-ডিইএমও নরসিংদীর সম্মেলন কক্ষে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে নির্বাচিত নারী উদ্যোক্তাদের হাতে অনুদানের চেক তুলে দেওয়া হয়।

ইউএনসিডিএফ ও সুইজারল্যান্ড দূতাবাসের আর্থিক সহযোগিতায় রিফিউজি অ্যান্ড মাইগ্রেটরি মুভমেন্টস রিসার্চ ইউনিট-রামরুর বাস্তবায়নে পরিচালিত ‘সফল’ প্রকল্পের আওতায় এ সহায়তা দেওয়া হয়।

নারী অভিবাসী ও অভিবাসী পরিবারের নারী সদস্যদের অর্থনৈতিকভাবে স্বাবলম্বী এবং টেকসই উদ্যোক্তা হিসেবে গড়ে তোলার লক্ষ্যে নরসিংদীতে ৮ জন নারী উদ্যোক্তার মাঝে অনুদানের চেক হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছে।

ইউএনসিডিএফ (UNCDF) ও সুইজারল্যান্ড দূতাবাসের আর্থিক সহযোগিতায় বেসরকারি উন্নয়ন গবেষণা সংস্থা Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU)-এর বাস্তবায়নে পরিচালিত ‘সফল’ (SHAFAL) প্রকল্পের আওতায় বুধবার (৯ সেপ্টেম্বর) জেলা কর্মসংস্থান ও জনশক্তি অফিস (DEMO), নরসিংদীর সম্মেলন কক্ষে এ চেক হস্তান্তর অনুষ্ঠান অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

Climate-related Migration: Challenges and Locally Led Solutions in Urban Bangladesh

Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) is pleased to announce the publication of its new research book, authored by Dr. Tasneem Siddiqui.

Climate change is increasingly shaping human mobility in Bangladesh. But does migration always mean vulnerability—or can it also be a pathway for adaptation?

This book explores the experiences of climate-related urban migrants and examines when migration can reduce risk and improve wellbeing, and when it can instead create new forms of vulnerability and precarious living conditions.

Based on extensive field research in Jashore, Satkhira, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar, the study looks at the complex drivers of migration, migrants’ economic and social wellbeing, urban vulnerabilities, policy challenges, and locally led solutions. The research draws on 6,000 interviews from 3,186 households, along with FGDs, KIIs and consultations.

The publication also highlights the need for coordinated policies, stronger local governments, inclusive urban planning, affordable housing, social protection, and gender-responsive approaches to ensure that climate-related migration can become a more sustainable adaptation pathway.
