Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 𝐀𝐡𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 (𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐓), marking the beginning of a strategic collaboration to engage the next generation of architects and housing professionals in addressing one of Bangladesh’s most pressing challenges—𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞-𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠.

As part of Habitat for Humanity’s global 𝐋𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐨𝐫 campaign and in observance of 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, this partnership aims to bridge academic innovation with real-world housing challenges by bringing together students, academics, development practitioners, architects, and policymakers.

The challenges faced by people living in Dhaka's informal settlements remain a reality today–and so does the determination of communities to create lasting change.

This story highlights the inspiring leadership of Raja, Sahana, and Sumi, who worked alongside their communities and local government to improve access to secure land tenure, safe water, sanitation, drainage, and other essential services.

As we continue the #𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 campaign, their story reminds us that achieving adequate housing requires more than building homes. It requires inclusive policies, community leadership, and collective action to ensure everyone has the opportunity to live in a safe, healthy, and dignified home.

Housing is more than four walls and a roof. It is a foundation for 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡, 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞.

As part of Habitat for Humanity’s Home Equals campaign, we are raising our voices for more inclusive and equitable housing policies for people living in informal settlements.
In support of the campaign, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐝𝐢𝐥 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐧 shares a powerful call for action:
“Housing is not a privilege—it is a fundamental right and the foundation of human dignity. The workers and low-income families who sustain our cities should not be forced to live in unsafe settlements under constant threat of eviction and without access to essential services. Bangladesh must translate its urban policies into action. We need inclusive and resilient urban planning to ensure every family, regardless of income, has access to a safe, healthy, affordable, and dignified home”

From workers and low-income families to the communities that keep our cities moving, everyone deserves access to 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞, 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲, 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 without the constant fear of eviction or exclusion from essential services.

As part of our commitment to integrating 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐆𝐄𝐒𝐈) into all aspects of our programming, it is essential that we continuously strengthen and refresh our understanding of these principles.

Yesterday, the entire Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh team came together for a full-day training on 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐆𝐄𝐒𝐈). Throughout the day, colleagues exchanged ideas, challenged assumptions, reflected on real-life experiences, and explored practical approaches to making our programmes more inclusive and equitable.

Through interactive group exercises, engaging discussions, role plays, and personal reflections, the training reinforced that gender equality and social inclusion are not merely concepts—they are core values that shape how we work, collaborate, make decisions, and serve communities.

As we continue working towards our vision of ensuring that everyone has a decent place to live, we remain equally committed to fostering workplaces and programmes where every individual feels respected, valued, heard, and included. We also recognise that meaningful community participation is fundamental to sustainable development. Therefore, we are committed to ensuring the active engagement and consultation of women, girls, and socially excluded and marginalised groups throughout programme design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, contributing to transformative and lasting change in gender equality and social inclusion.

Today, we welcomed Fiscal Year 2027 at Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh with a day full of smiles, conversations, and togetherness.

From our colorful dress-up and vibrant fruit festival to sharing experiences over lunch, every moment reminded us that a strong team is built not only through our work but also through the connections we create with one another.
