A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation

A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation was established as Charitable Trust in 1985 by late Rezaur Rahman FCA, (Founder-Partner of Rahman Rahman Huq) in honour of his late father, Abul Faiz Mujibur Rahman ICS. While the Foundation supports a wide range of institutions and activities, its primary focus is on the expansion of educational opportunities and improvement in the quality of education with a special emphasis across Bangladesh. The Foundation offers a number of ‘ Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Mathematics’ at the Universities of Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet and at the Government Rajendra College, Faridpur along with scholarships and other forms of support to a range of other institutions. Two contributions in particular deserve special mention. The first is the support provided to the A F Mujibur Rahman Maddhyamik Biddyalaya and Government Primary Biddyalaya in Gerda ( the birthplace of A F Mujibur Rahman ) very soon after its inception. As a result, a small village school in Bangladesh now consistently scores excellent results. The Foundation will be looking to support strengthening of rural education in the future. The other special achievement is the donation of a fully-furnished, 8-storey A F Mujibur Rahman Ganit Bhaban which was completed and handed over to Dhaka University in December 2014 with the hope that it will help the Mathematics Department at Dhaka University become a center of excellence in teaching and research in Mathematics in the region. In 2013 the Foundation took over sponsorship of Bangladesh Mathematical Society’s National Undergraduates’ Mathematics Olympiad. The 2014 Olympiad Award ceremony was the first formal event to be held at the A F Mujibur Rahman Ganit Bhaban University of Dhaka after its inauguration.
