The Swadhinata Bootcamp, organised by Breaking the Silence, was held in Dhaka on 27 August 2026, bringing together young participants for an engaging day of learning, dialogue, and practical activities on freedom of expression and digital safety.

We are proud to share that three representatives from KaathPencil participated in this impactful bootcamp, joining young people in exploring some of the most pressing challenges of today’s digital environment.

The sessions covered freedom of expression, misinformation and disinformation, fact-checking, digital safety, online harm, and Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV). Through practical exercises, team-based activities, and group discussions, participants developed a stronger understanding of how to verify information, assess sources, identify misleading content, and think critically before sharing information online.

The bootcamp also highlighted online safety, safe reporting and referral mechanisms, along with the Online General Diary (GD) process as a digital reporting mechanism for addressing threats, harassment, and other safety concerns.

For KaathPencil, meaningful youth participation means creating opportunities for young people to learn, question, connect, and contribute to positive change. The participation of our three representatives in the Swadhinata Bootcamp was another valuable opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and contribute to building more informed and responsible digital communities.

We believe that an informed young generation can help create a safer, more inclusive, and more responsible digital future.

What is happening in Nepal is a reminder that climate and disaster risks do not stop at borders.

As we stand in solidarity with the people of Nepal, we cannot ignore the fear growing among us in Bangladesh. From floods and landslides to extreme weather and displacement, communities across South Asia are becoming increasingly vulnerable.

Bangladesh is already one of the countries most exposed to climate-related disasters. Millions of people,especially children, young people, women, and marginalized communities face the greatest risks when disasters strike.

This is not simply about Nepal.
This is about our shared future.

We fear for the children who may lose their homes, education, safety, and dreams because of a crisis they did little to cause.

At KaathPencil, we believe fear must turn into action. We need stronger disaster preparedness, climate-resilient communities, meaningful youth participation, and above all, climate justice.

Today, KaathPencil proudly participated as a Civil Society Organization (CSO) in the Workshop on the Customization and Validation of the Existing Case Management Guideline, held at the SOS Training Center, Mirpur-13, Dhaka.
Our Campus Ambassador, Shakhawat, represented KaathPencil at this important workshop alongside the Executive Director of Breaking the Silence, the Manager of Child Helpline 1098, government officials, law enforcement representatives, teachers, community leaders, and fellow CSOs.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for collaborative discussions and group work to identify key areas that will strengthen the existing Case Management Guideline. We are grateful to be part of this collective effort to improve child protection and ensure safer, more effective support systems for children.

বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস ২০২৬ উপলক্ষে পরিবেশ অধিদপ্তরে আয়োজিত "গার্লস- এন্ড ইয়ুথ লেড ক্লাইমেট একশন" সেমিনারে উঠে এসেছে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বার্তা—জলবায়ু সংকট মোকাবিলায় কিশোরী ও তরুণদের নেতৃত্ব, অংশগ্রহণ এবং উদ্ভাবনের কোনো বিকল্প নেই।

কাঠ-পেন্সিল বিশ্বাস করে, জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের সবচেয়ে বড় প্রভাব বহন করছে আজকের শিশুরা ও তরুণ প্রজন্ম। তাই তাদের কণ্ঠস্বরকে গুরুত্ব দেওয়া, দক্ষতা উন্নয়নের সুযোগ তৈরি করা এবং নীতিনির্ধারণ প্রক্রিয়ায় অর্থবহ অংশগ্রহণ নিশ্চিত করা এখন সময়ের দাবি।

শুধু সচেতনতা নয়—প্রয়োজন স্থানীয় উদ্যোগ, গবেষণা, উদ্ভাবন এবং সম্মিলিত পদক্ষেপ। একটি সবুজ, নিরাপদ ও জলবায়ু-সহনশীল বাংলাদেশ গড়ে তুলতে সরকার, শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান, উন্নয়ন সংস্থা, নাগরিক সমাজ এবং যুব সংগঠনগুলোর যৌথ উদ্যোগই পারে বাস্তব পরিবর্তন আনতে।

কাঠ-পেন্সিল শিশু ও তরুণদের নেতৃত্ব বিকাশ, পরিবেশ শিক্ষা এবং জলবায়ু ন্যায়বিচার প্রতিষ্ঠায় কাজ করে যেতে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ। কারণ আজকের তরুণদের হাত ধরেই গড়ে উঠবে আগামী দিনের টেকসই বাংলাদেশ।

Today, a initiative called "cholo khal bachai" was organized by the footsteps,NVF and commercial bank around the Gulshan-2 lake area. KaathPencil was delighted to participate as a CSO member, in the Coordination Meeting organized under the "Speak Up" project by Breaking the Silence (BTS).

The meeting brought together like-minded organizations to exchange ideas and discuss collaborative approaches to creating a safer digital environment for children and young people. Key discussions focused on online safety, freedom of expression, cyberbullying prevention, and protecting children from online sexual abuse and exploitation.

Representing KaathPencil as a CSO member, we actively engaged in the discussions and shared our field experiences, insights, and recommendations. We believe that ensuring a safe, inclusive, and empowering digital space for children and youth requires strong collaboration among civil society organizations, government institutions, development partners, communities, and young people themselves.

We sincerely appreciate Breaking the Silence (BTS) for organizing this timely and meaningful initiative. We look forward to continuing our collective efforts to advance child protection, digital safety, and youth empowerment in Bangladesh.

KaathPencil at the Validation Workshop on CSAE Prevention and Response Training Modules

Yesterday, KaathPencil participated in the Validation Workshop for the Finalization of Training Modules on the Prevention and Response to Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE), organized by Breaking the Silence (BTS) under the SCIRCAE Project of the Nagorikata: Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) Programme.

The workshop brought together experts, practitioners, government representatives, and civil society stakeholders to review and validate training modules designed for parents and caregivers, youth, and children/adolescents.

Representatives from KaathPencil actively engaged in the discussions, provided constructive feedback, and shared valuable recommendations to strengthen the content, inclusivity, and effectiveness of the training modules. We believe that well-designed educational resources play a crucial role in raising awareness, preventing abuse, and ensuring a safer environment for children and young people.

We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to this important initiative and remain committed to promoting child rights, safeguarding, and meaningful youth engagement in Bangladesh.

National Budget's Bicycle Tax Increases Contradicts Sustainable Mobility Goals — Remarks by KaathPencil President Farzana Faruk Jhumu.

During the National Youth Summit on Just Transition and Sustainable Urban Mobility, Farzana Faruk Jhumu, President of KaathPencil, shared his concerns regarding the recent national budget's decision to increase taxes on bicycles.

She emphasized that at a time when countries around the world are promoting cycling as a clean, affordable, and climate-friendly mode of transportation, imposing higher taxes on bicycles sends the wrong message. Such a policy may discourage people from choosing sustainable transport options and could ultimately undermine efforts to reduce carbon emissions and build greener cities.

"Bicycles are more than just a means of transportation," she stated. "They contribute to cleaner air, healthier communities, reduced traffic congestion, and a more sustainable urban future. Instead of increasing taxes, bicycles should be made more affordable through tax reductions or exemptions to encourage greater public use."

At KaathPencil, we believe that achieving a Just Transition requires policies that prioritize people, public health, and the environment. We hope future budget decisions will better reflect Bangladesh's commitments to sustainable development and climate action by supporting, rather than discouraging, environmentally friendly transportation.
