All children will be with their families and no child will be called a “street child”.we help them to upgrade them-self one step. The children we meet on the street are known as “tokai” (rag pickers) or street hawkers but we call them Potho Colly. They are deprived of food, shelter, security, education and parental affections. These children are exploited by society in factories, shops, houses and
even in brothels. Having come to know of this critical situation, we volunteers have decided to do something beginning by firstly forming a relationship with these street children. Who are we? We are volunteers who come from variety of backgrounds. Some of us are businessmen, teachers, students, social workers, retired, employees, housewives and NGO workers. We are all committed as street educators at Potho Colly Foundation Bangladesh,
What do we do? We play with the street children. We provide them non-formal education. We provide them first aid and also other medical treatments by taking them to the hospitals. We encourage them to return home by giving psychological support to children and families. we give them financial support for doing Business. Our purpose:
To upgrade them & Our-self
To strengthen humanity in all. To fulfill children’s rights. To teach the street children how to manage and take care of their life. To build respectful relationships with them and among the children. To develop self-confidence in the children so that they can easily express themselves. Where do we work? We work in different places in Dhaka, including streets and footpaths, bus terminals, railway stations, markets, traffic signal points and some parks. Within these locations we have our specific places for doing our activities. Which method do we apply? Some of the children anticipate our arrival time and after exchanging warm greetings, we invite them to join our activities. Afterwards, we split into few groups, then children and volunteers start the activities that we find most proper for the day. These include usually physical games such as Frisbee throwing and skipping or intellectual games such as memory games, puzzles and some village games. Then we carry-on with non-formal education, in addition to giving first aid and awareness program about health care. Our aims:
To ensure the rights of those street children who are isolated from their families as well as from the society. To remove darkness, frustration, superstition and drug addiction from the lives of the children. To help them to choose the right path in their life. Our Dream
We dream to build up a new and better world where no child will live on the street.
