On 26th July 2023, Community Development For Peace - CDP, a U.S. State Alumni-led non-government organization, hosted the βCyber Attack and Prevention Workshop (CAPW)β at The American Center, Dhaka. Amidst many cyber incidents happening worldwide, CDP organized this workshop to enlighten Bangladeshi youth on cyber attacks, preparedness for incidents and legal aspects of cybercrime, and a practical demonstration on attack prevention. The workshop was attended by college and university students along with numerous CCI, UGRAD & ACCESS alumni.
The event started with a welcome speech from Mushfiq Hassan, the Youth Exchanges and Alumni Coordinator at the Public Engagement Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka.
The keynote speaker for this event was a learned Metropolitan Magistrate from the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. He shared his years of experience handling cybercrime incidents and discussed the multi-dimensional legal aspects of cyber attacks. Deputy Director Bren Flanigan gave him an award for his insightful lecture. Later, his speech was followed by a talk on the disasters of cyber attacks.
Md Asifuzzaman, a Cybersecurity Expert & Community College Initiative Program Alumni of the year 2021-22, demonstrated how individuals and organizations fall victim to traps set by hackers. His demonstration increased the participantsβ knowledge of the responsible usage of digital communication and computing devices. In sequence to this session, M. A. Mohet Khan Herock, an advocate & CCI Program Alumni of the year 2014-15, discussed the existing cyber laws in Bangladesh to tackle the rising concerns such as data breaches, remote control and system hacking.
After the speeches by our esteemed panel members, the participants engaged in focus group discussions and were given 6 topics to discuss arbitrarily. Later on, they presented their findings to everyone on stage. There was also a quiz competition segment to test the participantsβ understanding of concepts. The event concluded with prize distribution to the winners and a group photo session.
Community Development for Peace (CDP) is a non-profit organization established in 2013, working to raise awareness and create a positive voice on youth leadership, radicalism, drugs, crime, corruption, and human trafficking at the grassroots level of society in Bangladesh. CDP has organized numerous seminars, policy dialogues, and conferences emphasizing security issues by subject matter among different stakeholders in several institutions of Bangladesh with participation from UNODC, UNOCT, various high commissions, the Anti Terrorism Unit, and CTTC-DMP.
We have organized more than 62 events and donated 3 million BDT for the causes of disaster relief and capacity building. Over 30,000 people have benefited from our initiatives to date. In addition, CDP received accreditation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime on 24th February 2022.
