CMMS

CMMS Centre for Men & Masculinities Studies (3) To operate as a hub for masculinities-related research around Bangladesh. CMMS was established with this goal in mind.
(3)

The Centre for Men and Masculinities Studies (CMMS) is established with the intention to move forward with critical studies of the issues related with men and masculinities. The Centre for Men and Masculinities Studies (CMMS) has three major objectives:

(1) To promote and implement research works with collaborations among a pool of scholars, researchers and activists both within and outside the

city of Dhaka. (2) To put up national research with collaborations of both GO and NGOs in areas concerning issues regarding men and masculinities. The motivating factors that promulgated the idea behind establishment of CMMS was the common notion about men that only men are responsible for all forms of violence; be it against men and be it against women. There is also a general perception is that masculinity and patriarchies is synonymous or to some extend same. These misconceptions are not only incorrect, in some instances are very much biased and examples of narrow sightings. All men are not innocent again not all men are oppressors. Positive attributes are also available in many men and boys. This unitary notion about men and boys needs to be changed and men also need to come up with a positive outlook towards women, gender related issues and issues related with the empowerment of women. Only way that these perceptions and outlooks can be changed is by conducting research on social issues related with men and masculinities.
