🩺 Today is World Hypertension Day 2026

High blood pressure or hypertension is known as the “silent killer” because many people do not even know they have it until serious complications occur.

🌍 According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 1.4 billion people worldwide are living with hypertension, yet only 1 in 4 have it under control.

🇧🇩 In Bangladesh, nearly 1 in every 3 adults aged 30–79 years is affected by hypertension, while many cases remain undiagnosed.

Unchecked hypertension increases the risk of:
❤️ Heart attack
🧠 Stroke
🩺 Kidney disease
👁 Vision problems
⚠ Premature death

At Bangladesh Non Communicable Disease Forum (BNCDF), we encourage everyone to:

✅ Check blood pressure regularly
✅ Reduce salt intake
✅ Stay physically active
✅ Avoid to***co use
✅ Eat healthy foods
✅ Maintain a healthy weight
✅ Follow prescribed treatment regularly

📌 A simple blood pressure check can save lives.
📌 Know Your Numbers. Control Your Pressure. Protect Your Heart.

✍️"Commitment alone is not enough. Without accountability linked to financing, prevention, primary health care, monitoring, and community oversight, progress [on NCDs] will remain uneven," write Prof. Abhinav Vaidya, Dr. Manita Pyakurel, Ummay Ferhin Sultana, Radhika Shrivastav in their blog focusing on NCD action following .

🌍 Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Society of Nephrology report that nearly 850 million people worldwide are living with some form of kidney disease, making chronic kidney disease a major global public health concern. Diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and the uncontrolled use of medicines are key factors driving this increase.

Specialists also note that although kidney function tests are relatively inexpensive, many people avoid regular check-ups, and almost 50% of patients seek medical care only after significant kidney damage has occurred. Without proper prevention and early detection, kidney disease could become one of the leading causes of death globally by 2040.

On World Kidney Day 2026, the Bangladesh Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Forum calls for greater awareness, early screening, and healthier lifestyles to ensure Kidney Health for All.
