30-09-2026: Rotary Club of Dhaka, in collaboration with the Gynaecological Oncology Society of Bangladesh (GOSB) and the BRAC Microfinance Program, successfully conducted Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Camps in 116 Upazila Health Complexes (UHCs) across Bangladesh from 01-28 September, 2026.
A total of 6,252 women participated in the voluntary screening programme. Of those screened, 139 (2.23%) women tested VIA-positive for possible cervical precancerous lesions, 93 (1.49%) women were identified with CBE-positive during Clinical Breast Examination, and 2 (0.032%) women were Cancer (Ca) positive, who all were referred for further evaluation and appropriate management.
The screening was conducted by 176 doctors and 609 nurses/paramedics/MLSS organised by local UHCs. 605 BRAC volunteers led by local Regional and Divisional Coordinators organised the campaigning program for raising awareness and pre-registration of the participants to ensure maximum community participation.
The screening camps form part of an ambitious nationwide initiative to expand organised cervical cancer screening services to all 432 Upazila Health Complexes (UHCs) of Bangladesh (excluding Sadar Upazilas), in support of the National initiative for Cervical Cancer Prevention and Elimination. So far, 314 UHCs were covered in 3 months (July, August and September), screening 16,964 women. Fenchuganj of Sylhet recorded the highest VIA and CBE positive cases at 37.5% and 17.5% respectively.
Overall coordination and implementation of the program waa carried out by the Rotary Dhaka Save Life Foundation, the service arm of the Rotary Club of Dhaka.
