BGBA President Speaks on Bangladesh’s Economic Recovery & RMG Sector

In an interview with *BTV, Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA) President **Md. Abdul Hamid* shared his observations regarding the current situation of the RMG sector.

He stated:

> “We appreciate the present government for maintaining fuel prices at a stable and tolerable level despite the challenging economic conditions. Although nearly 400 garment factories were closed during previous periods, the hopeful aspect is that many factories have already started recovering. If even 50% of these factories can resume operations through policy-level support, it will make a significant contribution to the RMG sector and create substantial employment opportunities.”

BGBA believes that with continued policy support, economic stability, and industry-focused initiatives, Bangladesh’s RMG sector will be able to regain stronger momentum and continue contributing significantly to the country’s economy and employment generation.

At the Grand Launching Ceremony of Textile Innovation Exchange (TIE) held at La Meridien on Saturday, BGBA President Md. Abdul Hamid joined as Special Guest and emphasized the urgent need for Bangladesh’s RMG and textile sector to shift towards sustainable fabric production.

He highlighted that global buyers are increasingly prioritizing sustainability, making it essential for Bangladesh to invest in eco-friendly textiles. Sustainable fabric production will not only reduce the consumption of valuable natural resources like water but also create opportunities for higher revenue generation and long-term competitiveness for the country.

He also pointed out the vital contribution of Buying Houses, which contribute an estimated USD 15–16 billion to Bangladesh’s RMG exports, stating that the Buying House deserves greater recognition and respect.

Calling for stronger industry unity, he urged stakeholders including BGBA, BKMEA, BGMEA, and BTMA to work as collaborators rather than competitors . According to him, this collective approach is crucial for driving innovation in the textile and RMG sector and securing Bangladesh’s competitive edge in the international market.
