To mark World Environment Day 2026, Educo Bangladesh and its partner organisations collaboratively organised environmental awareness and action initiatives across different districts of Bangladesh under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

The observance included discussion sessions, tree plantation campaigns, and community clean-up drives, engaging children, adolescents, youth, and community members in meaningful environmental action. Young people played a leading role throughout the campaign, demonstrating strong commitment to environmental protection and climate resilience.

A special session at the Educo Bangladesh Country Office reflected on climate change, environmental degradation, and plastic pollution, emphasising environmental sustainability in development programming and shared responsibility in protecting the environment for future generations. Across the country, number of trees were planted and significant amounts of plastic waste were collected from communities and public spaces, helping create cleaner and greener environments.

These initiatives strengthened environmental awareness, community engagement, and climate action, empowering children and youth as agents of change.

আমরা বিশ্বাস করি, আজকের দায়িত্বশীল ও পরিবেশবান্ধব আচরণই আগামী প্রজন্মের জন্য একটি নিরাপদ, সবুজ ও টেকসই ভবিষ্যৎ নিশ্চিত করতে পারে। বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবসে আসুন প্রতিজ্ঞা করি—

Recently, Educo Bangladesh organised the Child-Centred Leadership (CCL) workshop at the Educo Country Office in Dhaka. The session focused on one of the CCL attributes: “Authenticity.”

We know that children express emotions without filters and show consistency between what they feel and what they do. But adults often express emotions with filters and similarity show inconsistency between what we feel, say, and do.

The session was engaging, with active participation. Through group work, journaling, individual reflection activities, meditation, and interactive discussions, participants explored the importance of being authentic in both personal and professional life.

Educo Bangladesh calls for urgent collective action to prevent violence against children and ensure their safety and dignity. 🤝

As part of the Child Rights Advocacy Coalition in Bangladesh—a network of 14 international and national child rights-based organisations working in Bangladesh—we have circulated a press release expressing deep concern over the r**e and murder of 8-year-old schoolgirl Ramisa Akter in the Pallabi area of Mirpur, along with a rising number of similar acts of violence against children across the country.

Today, Educo Bangladesh organised the “National Dialogue on the Rights and Well-being of RMG Workers and Their Children” in Dhaka under the SMILE project, funded by MANGO and implemented by Shobujer Ovijan Foundation - SOF with technical support from Educo Bangladesh.

The dialogue brought together representatives from the government, the RMG sector, labour organisations, development partners, and civil society to promote safer, more inclusive, and child-friendly workplaces.

The programme was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Mohammad Mozammel Haque, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Special guests at the event included Imran Kader Turjo, Director of BKMEA; Naimul Ahsan Jewel, General Secretary of Jatio Sromik Jote Bangladesh and member of the National Coordination Committee for Workers’ Education (NCCWE); and Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Bhuiyan, Joint Inspector General of DIFE.

The event highlighted the SMILE project’s contributions to workers’ mental well-being, childcare support, workplace improvement, GBV awareness, and children’s education. “Voice of Change”—a booklet featuring project stories and factory insights—and the Educo Annual Report were also launched at the event.

During the dialogue session on the rights and well-being of workers and their children, speakers emphasised the need for quality childcare support, safe spaces for children, and effective factory-based Anti-Harassment and Participation Committees.

Currently active in 19 garment factories, the SMILE project is working to improve Day Care Centres, workplace environments, and Community-Based Child Development Centres for workers and their children.

The Global Climate Strike is a powerful worldwide movement led by youth to demand urgent systemic action against the accelerating climate crisis. On 08 May 2026, youth groups under the collaborative initiative of Educo Bangladesh and Nazrul Smriti Sangsad Nss observed the Global Climate Strike in Bangladesh under the theme “From Independence to Resilience – No Future Without Nature.” The event aimed to engage youth in climate advocacy and protect vulnerable coastal populations.

Activists specifically welcomed the government’s plan to generate 10,000MW of solar power by 2030, yet called for a time-bound roadmap and a significantly higher share of renewable energy within the Energy Sector Master Plan (EPSMP).

The strike’s actions featured a peaceful rally, slogans and cultural activities to demand a decisive shift away from fossil fuels. By linking local awareness campaigns with national policies like the National Adaptation Plan, the event empowered youth to bridge the gap between grassroots vulnerability and global climate justice. These efforts emphasised that achieving energy security and climate resilience requires immediate and transparent commitments to transition toward a sustainable, nature-based future.
