“Sonamoni Project” a research initiative of CIPRB works to prevent drowning for children under 2 years in two upazilas, Sherpur Sadar from Sherpur and Kalapara of Patuakhali districts. The project distributed playpens, door barriers, door locks and self-closing doors among 60 households in these upazilas in piloting phase (Stage-1). The project also provided first-response and drop and dial-a-caregiver services, risk assessment, awareness raising activities to the respective parents.

As part of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) process, Sonamoni project team recently conducted focus group discussions with mothers and organized workshops with relevant stakeholders. Dr. Aminur Rahman, Co-Lead Applicant of the project also interacted with the parents and Anchal maas (childcare center caregiver) to learn their experiences during his visit in Sherpur sadar upazila.

Every year on 28 April, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed globally to promote safe, healthy, and decent working environments. This year’s theme, “Let’s ensure a healthy psychosocial working environment,” highlights the importance of mental wellbeing, dignity, and positive workplace culture alongside physical safety.

CIPRB’s vision of ensuring a healthy and dignified life for all in a safe and productive environment strongly aligns with this global theme. Across its research, community interventions, and capacity-building initiatives, CIPRB integrates staff wellbeing, safeguarding, and a respectful work culture as core principles.

On 16th April 2026, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) organized a technical coordination workshop to share findings of facility Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) assessment, and implementation research on Community KMC in collaboration with UNICEF Bangladesh and CIPRB. Keynote presenter Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Halim, Director, RCH Unit, CIPRB, highlighted the progress, achievements, and challenges of KMC, Community Kangaroo Mother Care (C-KMC), and post discharge follow up babies who were premature and had low birth weight.

In the workshop, Prof. Dr. Foara Tasnim (ADG, DGHS), Dr. Syed Kamrul Islam, Director (Primary Health Care), DGHS, and Dr. Malalay Ahmadzai (Chief Health, UNICEF) addressed to the participants. A total of 41 representatives from the DGHS, UNICEF, CIPRB, NexGen and other respective organizations were present in the workshop.

CIPRB Highlights its Scientific Efforts on Health on World Health Day 2026
World Health Day 2026 emphasizes the crucial role of scientific innovation, evidence-based solutions, and global collaboration in tackling emerging health challenges, including environmental risks.
Reflecting this year’s theme, “Together for health. Stand with science,” CIPRB highlighted its scientific efforts on drowning prevention, road traffic injury reduction, reproductive and child health, snake bite, etc., which complemented national and global strategy formulations. CIPRB also stressed the importance of working further on the ‘One Health Approach’ which recognizes that the health of humans, animals, plants, and the wider environment are closely linked and interdependent in the future.

Technical Coordination Workshop to strengthen CIPRB’s collaboration with DGHS and UNFPA

CIPRB organized a technical coordination workshop to strengthen its collaboration with the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on 6th April 2026. In the workshop, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Halim, Director, RCH Unit, CIPRB highlighted ongoing reproductive health activities and planned priorities with a focus on strengthening maternal health, obstetric fistula prevention and others.
Dr. Syed Kamrul Islam, Director (Primary Health Care), DGHS, Dr. Abu Sayed Mohammad Hasan, SRHR Specialist, UNFPA, Prof. Dr. AKM Fazlur Rahman, Executive Director, CIPRB unveiled three national level module and reports in presence of 21 representatives from the respective organizations. These are, National MISP Module 2024, the National Annual Report on MPDSR (2019–2024) and the National Annual Report on Obstetric Fistula (2019–2024) which marks a significant milestone in strengthening maternal and reproductive health initiatives in Bangladesh.

সেন্টার ফর ইনজুরি প্রিভেনশন অ্যান্ড রিসার্চ, বাংলাদেশ (সিআইপিআরবি) সম্প্রতি গাজীপুরে বাংলাদেশের সড়ক নিরাপত্তার কৌশলগত পরিকল্পনা কর্মশালায় সক্রিয়ভাবে অংশগ্রহণ করেছে। গ্লোবাল রোড সেফটি পার্টনারশীপ এর কারিগরি সহায়তায় বেসরকারি সংস্থা ব্র্যাক রোড সেফটি কোয়ালিশন বাংলাদেশ এর পক্ষে ২৯ মার্চ থেকে ১ এপ্রিল, ২০২৬ এই কর্মশালার আয়োজন করেছে।

সারাদেশে সড়ক নিরাপত্তা জোরদার করতে এই কর্মশালায় সিআইপিআরবিসহ নয়টি বেসরকারি সংস্থার প্রতিনিধিবৃন্দ ও সড়ক নিরাপত্তা বিশেষজ্ঞসহ ৪৩ জন অংশগ্রহণ করেন। কর্মশালায় অংশগ্রহণকারীগণ সমন্বিত সড়ক নিরাপত্তা আইন প্রণয়ন, মোটরযানের গতিসীমা বাস্তবায়ন ‍ও প্রয়োগ সংক্রান্ত ম্যানুয়াল তৈরি এবং মানসম্মত হেলমেট ব্যবহারের নির্দেশিকা প্রণয়ণে সরকারের গৃহীত বিভিন্ন কার্যক্রমে সহযোগিতা ও অ্যাডভোকেসি অব্যাহত রাখার অঙ্গীকার পুনর্ব্যক্ত করেছেন।

CIPRB actively participated in Bangladesh Road Safety Strategic Planning Workshop recently held in Gazipur. On behalf of the Road Safety Coalition Bangladesh (RSCB), BRAC organized the 4-day workshop from 29 March to 1 April, 2026 with technical support from the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP).

To improve road safety nationwide, a total of 43 representatives from nine organizations of the coalition and road safety experts expressed their commitment to complement government initiatives to enact the Comprehensive Road Safety Law (CRSL), develop a Speed Implementation and Enforcement Manual and establish guidelines for standard helmet use along with advocacy initiatives.

A workshop on the Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) Checklist and Risk Mitigation Measures for Health Cluster Partners, working together to promote a safer, exploitation- and abuse-free working environment, especially during emergency situations, took place on 30 March 2026, supported by Danish Red Cross (DRC).
Ms. Sangeeta Barua, Safeguarding and PSEA Focal Person of CIPRB participated and contributed in the workshop on behalf of the organization, being one of the Health Cluster Partners.
