Alokito Shishu is a platform run by a youth group dedicated to educating the underprivileged children of Bangladesh.

Alokito (Advancing Local Ownership through Knowledge and Innovation for Transformative Outcomes) is a youth-led organization, envisioning facilitating community ownership to lead transformative changes through mutual learning and transferring strengths. We provide free, quality education for primary school underprivileged community children through practical knowledge. We make them curious for knowledge and show them a path to improve their conditions. Currently, we are operating a semi-formal school in Shiraajdikhan, Munshiganj for gypsy community children. They are the first generation to have schooling facilities from their community. About 45 students leading their life on boats where they don’t even have the situation to get proper schooling. These students and their families want to get the chance of having higher education, so we and our 3 full-time teachers are committed to helping them. We run a formal school for sweepers at the Nator sweeper community. We have 40 students currently studying and 3 full-time teachers for them along with 20 volunteers. Even 10 students from this school have passed successfully the primary education certificate examination. We arrange heritage hunting days each year to unlock new doors for them. We have set up a platform named “Give for Good” where city people donate their clothes, stationery, toys, books. We check the quality of donations and if needed we modify them. Then we donate to community people for better livelihood. We also use our storage for any emergency crisis like floods, river irrigation, and migration, and so on. We are also doing a project named "Unleashing Youth" for the 18-17 aged group people to make them realize Radicalisation. Under this platform, we are working with Dhaka, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, and Gazipur to prevent violent extremism to make a better Bangladesh.

At ARC Initiative, we believe meaningful change begins not with telling communities what to do, but with listening to what they have to say.

We move towards communities not with ready-made solutions, but with trust in their strengths, experiences, and ideas. Through listening, appreciation, and co-creation, communities identify their own challenges and discover solutions that work for them.

Recently, through a listening and later a co-creation discussion, a group of parents Munshiganj River Gypsy community members reflected on challenges around children’s education. Together, they explored their own ideas, identified possible solutions, and turned those ideas into meaningful action.

The initiative that followed was not done for the community it was shaped and owned by the community. Because when we listen deeply, communities don't just share their problems.They discover their strengths.They create their solutions.And they lead the change.

Recently, a group of adolescents from the Narayanganj Harijan Community took the initiative to organize and implement a community-led tree plantation activity under ARC Initiative. Recognizing the importance of trees in protecting the environment, they transformed their ideas into action for the benefit of their community.

This initiative is a powerful reminder that adolescents are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are changemakers today. When young people are provided with the opportunity, trust, and space to lead, they can drive meaningful action, inspire their peers, and contribute to building more resilient, environmentally conscious communities.

সম্প্রতি ARC Inititaive এর আওতায় নারায়ণগঞ্জ হরিজন কমিউনিটির একদল কিশোর-কিশোরী নিজেদের ভাবনা ও নেতৃত্বে একটি কমিউনিটি-নেতৃত্বাধীন বৃক্ষরোপণ কার্যক্রম বাস্তবায়ন করেছে।

পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণে বৃক্ষের গুরুত্ব উপলব্ধি করে তারা শুধু গাছ লাগায়নি, বরং একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বার্তাও তুলে ধরেছে—সুযোগ ও সহায়তা পেলে কিশোর-কিশোরীরাও সমাজ ও পরিবেশে ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন আনতে কার্যকর ভূমিকা রাখতে পারে।

তাদের এই উদ্যোগ প্রমাণ করে, অর্থবহ পরিবর্তনের জন্য বয়স নয়, প্রয়োজন সচেতনতা, অংশগ্রহণ এবং নেতৃত্বের সাহস। আজকের এই ছোট পদক্ষেপই আগামী দিনের আরও সবুজ, সচেতন ও টেকসই সমাজ গঠনের ভিত্তি হতে পারে।

Team Agami, a group of adolescent girls from the Narayanganj Harijan Community, developed their collective dream through the Community Competence Learning Process (CLCP). Through engagement in SALT conversations and community initiatives, including Bangla language support for younger children, they envision a community where children can continue their education free from language and social barriers.

Moreover, the girls aspire to complete their secondary education and pass the SSC examination by 2030. They also dream of creating a safe and supportive environment for children and adolescents, promoting safeguarding practices, and encouraging creativity among children and young people.

Their collective dream reflects growing leadership, confidence, and commitment to positive community change.

টিম আগামী, নরায়ণগঞ্জ হরিজন সম্প্রদায়ের কিশোরী মেয়েদের একটি দল, কমিউনিটি কম্পিটেন্স লার্নিং প্রসেস (CLCP) এর মাধ্যমে তাদের সম্মিলিত একটি স্বপ্ন তৈরি করেছে। SALT কসভারসেশনে অংশগ্রহণ এবং কমিউনিটিভিত্তিক উদ্যোগ, যেমন ছোট শিশুদের জন্য বাংলা ভাষা শেখাতে সহায়তা করা—এসবের মাধ্যমে তারা এমন একটি সম্প্রদায়ের স্বপ্ন দেখে যেখানে শিশুরা ভাষাগত ও সামাজিক বাধা ছাড়াই তাদের পড়াশোনা চালিয়ে যেতে পারে।
একইসাথে, ২০৩০ সালের মধ্যে মাধ্যমিক শিক্ষা সম্পন্ন করে এসএসসি পরীক্ষায় উত্তীর্ণ হওয়ার আকাঙ্ক্ষা রাখে। পাশাপাশি তারা শিশু ও কিশোর-কিশোরীদের জন্য একটি নিরাপদ ও সহায়ক পরিবেশ গড়ে তোলার স্বপ্ন দেখে, যেখানে সুরক্ষামূলক চর্চা (সেফগার্ডিং) প্রমোট করা হবে এবং শিশু ও তরুণদের সৃজনশীলতা বিকাশে উৎসাহিত করা হবে। তাঁদের সম্মিলিত স্বপ্ন তাদের নেতৃত্ব, আত্মবিশ্বাস এবং ইতিবাচক সামাজিক পরিবর্তনের প্রতি অঙ্গীকারকেই তুলে ধরে।

Recent incidents of violence against women and children across different parts of Bangladesh have created fear and concern among many parents and community members. In response to the SALT approch of Addressing Root Causes(ARC) Initiative by Global Fund for Children, a group of adolsecent girls from Narayanganj Harijan Community, facilitated an awareness session with children, adolescents, parents, and community members on Good Touch and Bad Touch.

The session provided a safe space to discuss personal safety, understand the differences between good and bad touch, and learn how children can seek support when they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Participants also shared their thoughts and concerns regarding recent incidents and discussed the importance of creating a protective environment for girls and children.

The active participation and engagement of community members showed the importance of continuing conversations around safety, protection, and safeguarding within our communities.

Day 2 of the ARC South Asia Convening 2026 in Nepal was filled with learning, exchange, and connection! The day began with a warm and vibrant welcome dance by the Swarmbbha Cohort, setting an energetic and joyful tone for the sessions ahead.

One of the most engaging parts of the day was the Gallery Walk and Change Stations, where participants from Bangladesh, India, and Nepal cohorts explored different stories of change at community, organizational, and cohort levels. Each station reflected journeys, experiences, challenges, and actions taken within different communities.

Representatives from different cohorts, including the ARC Bangladesh Cohort, also presented their change stories and experiences from the field. The session created a meaningful space for mutual learning, reflection, and inspiration across countries and organizations.

Throughout the day, the convening became a space of shared experiences, warm conversations, smiles, and collective learning—reminding us of the power of connecting and learning from one another. 💫

Day 2 at the ARC South Asia Convening, Nepal 2026!

Parvez Hassan, SALT Facilitator of Addressing Root Causes(ARC) Initiative, funded by Global Fund for Children shared changes on behalf of ARC Bangladesh Cohort on promoting Healthy Masculinity through the SALT approach.

The session highlighted how the six cohort partner organizations of the ARC Bangladesh Cohort have been working with different communities across Bangladesh to encourage reflection on traditional gender norms and promote more positive, respectful, and equitable behaviors among men and boys through SALT.

Through SALT conversations, communities are gradually creating changes where boys and men are contributing more in household responsibilities, building respectful relationships, and supporting gender equality in everyday life.

Day 1 at the ARC South Asia Convening 2026, Nepal!🌏✨

Our journey began with an evening full of warm connections, laughter, and shared conversations. Representatives from different countries and partner organizations came together in a beautiful space of interaction, getting to know one another beyond introductions.

The gathering created a beautiful space to connect, know one another, and build relationships beyond work and organizations. From joyful ice-breaking activities to meaningful conversations, the evening was filled with warmth, energy, and togetherness.

We, Alokito Kori along with Harijan Community, Narayanganj successfully organized the Knowledge Fair on 24 April 2026 celebrating together community-led initiatives from Addressing Root Causes(ARC) Initiative, funded by Global Fund for Children.

Since 2023, we have been working with underserved and disadvantaged communities Harijan Community, Narayaganj and Bede Community, Munshiganj through SALT and CLCP approach towards community empowerment. This Knowledge Fair was a true reflection of that journey.

This event was different because it was community-led in every aspect. From planning to organizing, from logistics to storytelling—community members, especially adolescents, actively took responsibility and led the process. Community members shared how they identified social challenges, ensured safety within their contexts, and took initiatives—sometimes even taking risks and exploring alternative paths—to bring positive changes. These stories reflected the power of collective action, where vulnerabilities of children, adolescents, girls, and women were transformed into strengths.

We were also honored to have our cohort partner organizations of ARC Bangladesh Cohort— Bangladesh Rural Economic Development(BRED), Grow Your Reader Foundation(GYRF) and Ashirbad Mohila Unnayan Samity join this learning space. Through shared experiences, communities inspired one another with their own community-led initiatives and journeys of change.

The entire event was filled with warm smiles, strong connections, and mutual respect—highlighting the beauty of community-to-community learning, collaboration, and shared growth.

জুলাই পরবর্তী সময়ে আমাদের কিছু স্বপ্ন তৈরি হয়েছিল। তারপর সেটা কখনো বাস্তব রুপ পায়নি।

পরিবেশ উপদেষ্টা বলেছিলেন পলিথিন বন্ধ হবে, পাথর উত্তোলন বন্ধ হবে, খাল উদ্ধার হবে, হয়নি!
