The RACE Project (Rajshahi Youth and Children in Advancing Climate Adaptation and Anticipatory Action within the Education System) is officially underway following a successful inception workshop in Rajshahi city.

The initiative aims to engage students and schools in advancing climate adaptation and anticipatory action within their education system.

Supported by BILD hilft e.V. „Ein Herz für Kinder“ and Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, German Red Cross Bangladesh Delegation , the project will be implemented in partnership with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS) to strengthen youth-led climate action and disaster preparedness.

The workshop brought together key government officials, education stakeholders, and school teachers for constructive dialogue on collaboration, local ownership, and integrating climate resilience (through Y-adapt toolkit and Anticipatory Action) into school communities.

Looking forward to the journey ahead in empowering young changemakers in Rajshahi city.

This gathering was a moment to appreciate the strong support, collaboration, and commitment shown throughout the year. Together, we end the year with gratitude and look ahead with renewed energy and hope.

In my last week with Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, German Red Cross Bangladesh Delegation I met and had some serious conversation with two prominent German Diplomats - Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Mr. Johann Saathoff and Mr. Boris Mijatovic, Member of the German Parliament (Bündnis90/Die Grünen – The Green Party). On behalf of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, German Red Cross Bangladesh Delegation and the people of Bangladesh as well as the displaced Rohingya population in Cox's Bazar, I urged the two dignateries and their colleagues to not forget the plight of the population movement crisis as well as the natural disasters risk that Bangladesh faces. The support of Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany and Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and German Embassy Dhaka is critical for Bangladesh so that it does not become a silent/forgotten crisis and people are not left behind. My hope is that we will continue our solidarity with the people of Bangladesh.

As the Programmatic Partnership (PPP) draws to a close, I want to express my sincere thanks to our incredible colleagues at the German Red Cross Bangladesh Delegation. Your commitment, patience, and professionalism over these past years have been instrumental in making this program work not just on paper, but on the ground where it matters most.

From ensuring timely implementation to managing partnerships with care, promoting localization in real ways, and staying steady through the inevitable challenges your support has been constant and deeply appreciated.

To those whose roles are now wrapping up with the end of PPP, thank you especially. Your efforts laid the groundwork for stronger systems, stronger relationships, and a more community-driven approach. You’ve set a high bar. It’s been a privilege working alongside you. Looking forward to seeing where your next steps take you in your journey and hoping our paths cross again soon.

Danke schön.

EU Commissioner (Hadja Lahbib) and her team observed an impressive school based Disaster Preparedness Simulation Exercise in Dhaka city. Schools, local infrastructure/institutions and community readiness in urban Dhaka is key for multi-hazard risk reduction particularly earthquakes. Under the DRM pillar of the Programmatic Partnership supported by European Commission - ECHO the Red Cross Red Crescent Consortium is implementing a number of initiatives like Disaster Preparedness, Anticipatory Action and Shock Responsive Social Protection. Integrated in the program are community based surveillance and community engagement and accountability. Thanks to GoB/MoDMR/DDM for their participation; Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS) and its volunteers for their efforts in community resilience through these exercises and practice drills; European Commission - ECHO for their commitment to risk reduction and disaster preparedness in Bangladesh and to the RCRC consortium partners International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC; Deutsches Rotes Kreuz; Swedish Red Cross and Danish Red Cross for their technical collaboration. I had the rare opportunity to spend a few precious moments with Hadja Lahbib and her team and was impressed with her leadership and dedication in supporting preparedness, crisis management and inclusion. Special appreciation to the German Red Cross Bangladesh Delegation-PPP Team for all their efforts in putting this event together.
