Bangladesh Garment Workers Solidarity ( Bangladesh Garment Sromik Samhoti) has started its work in 2008. The main focus of this organization is to fight for garment workers right. Last 7 years Garment Workers Solidarity has been struggling to ensure minimum wage, working environment and trade union rights of garment workers of Bangladesh. They are struggling for the change of labor laws which are not in favor of workers interest. They have raised their voice for fixing a democratic labor law for workers. After Tazreen fire and Rana Plaza Collapse Garment workers Solidarity have given more concentration on working environment and safety issues. They published a missing list after Rana Plaza collapse and continuously gave pressure to owners, owners association, government and international buyers for these incidents. They don’t think Tazreen fire or Rana Plaza Collapse as accident they think that these are structural killing. And they think for the negligence of government, owners, owners associations, and international buyer this kinds of structural killing happened. Bangladesh Garment Workers Solidarity has published a 480 pages bangla book on Rana Plaza Collapse named ''24th April: Out Cries of a Thousand souls''. They are going to publish a website on this book in Bangla and English soon. With a dream of living a better life million of workers from villages gather in workers barrack in cities. Surrounding the garment industries large workers barracks have grown in Bangladesh. Workers toil from dawn to dusk for a minimum wage of BDT3000 taka a month (less than 37 $) till 2013. Government declared a new gross minimum wage BDT 5300 ( near about $67) , which is not sufficient for them to survive. Bangladesh Garment Workers Solidarity is struggling for a better minimum wage through which workers can survive and develop this sector. This organization is now working at different EPZ (Export Processing Zone) area and workers barracks to organize workers. Taslima Akhter activist and photographer is working as a coordinator of this organization.
