Phulki

Phulki Phulki meaning “spark” in Bangla, is an NGO that brings a flicker of light to the lives of disadvantaged communities, especially among the women and children.

Phulki started 30 years ago with a vision to endeavour to spark the development of socioeconomic conditions of disadvantaged people particularly woman and children. This organization is now managed by staff of 235 persons out of which 224 are young women which is a unique in Bangladesh today. Phulki meaning “spark” in Bangla is a non-profit organization that brings a flicker of light to the lives

of disadvantaged communities. Established in 1991 by a group of social workers, it has built for itself quite a substantive constituency amongst the disadvantaged working women and children in the urban areas. The systematic work over the twenty five years with children and working women has enabled it to earn a lot of goodwill and developed brand image of childcare and early childhood development (ECD) blended programming in Bangladesh.

This Noboborsho brought a meaningful difference to our celebrations 🌾 With the vibrant colours and celebrations, Phulki family welcomed the New Year through a special thrift sale initiative.

Brands, individuals, and boutiques donated items for Phulki family to purchase and raising those funds for our sustainable programmes.

Phulki was honored to be invited to a national roundtable on Early Childhood Development (ECD), organized by Prothom Alo and Oxford Policy Management’s Thrive Programme.

The discussion focused on assessing the current status of ECD in Bangladesh while identifying key policy and implementation gaps, with participation from government, development partners, NGOs, and experts.

As a pioneer in establishing daycare centres among the underprivileged communities in Bangladesh -- Phulki shared its extensive experience in promoting the development, functionality, and long-term sustainability of the childcare services.

Phulki emphasized that ensuring sustainable daycare services require strong monitoring systems and a formal registration framework to maintain quality and accountability.
