🌟 Meet Sakib, 26 — Bridging Communities and Saving Lives Beyond Borders 🌟
Growing up in a low-income family in Bangladesh, Sakib experienced firsthand the pain of limited support and language barriers. After arriving in Singapore, he chose to turn those personal hardships into a life-changing mission for others.
Serving as a team leader, translator, and health counsellor with The Wandering Dervishes, Sakib has in the past three years travelled from dormitory to dormitory, helping in identifying previously undiagnosed cases of diabetes and high blood pressure among the migrant worker community. Through these screenings, these potentially serious health conditions have been detected early, giving workers the opportunity to seek timely care before complications arise. To date, Team Wandering Dervishes have visited 26 migrant worker dormitories and have conducted health screenings for more than 3,000 workers!
Beyond healthcare, he teaches soft technical skills migrant brothers, supports CNB/Dadah Itu Haram to spread drug awareness, and co-founded In This Together to connect migrant and local communities. He also engages in promoting and helping with fund raising for humanitarian relief efforts, notably the fund raising during regional floods in 2024.
