On July 7, 2026, the SAARC Agriculture Center (SAC) welcomed a delegation from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) for a constructive meeting at the SAC Office in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The IFPRI delegation included Dr. Shahidur Rashid, Director for the Ifpri South Asia regional office; Dr. Neha Kumar, Senior Research Fellow in the Nutrition, Diets, and Health (NDH) Unit; and Dr. Moogdho Mahzab, Research Fellow with the Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI) Unit and Acting Country Representative of IFPRI-Bangladesh. Discussions centered on deepening collaboration across several priority areas for the SAARC region, including agricultural mechanization, technology dissemination, evidence-based policymaking, biofortified food systems, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, and climate-resilient farming practices. The two organizations reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional cooperation under their existing MoU and agreed to pursue joint initiatives, deepen stakeholder engagement, and develop a collaborative regional program. Through this partnership, SAC and IFPRI aim to advance sustainable agricultural development, strengthen food and nutrition security, and build climate resilience for communities across South Asia.

IFPRI-Bangladesh joined a roundtable with a visiting delegation from the Government of Canada in Dhaka on 21 May 2026, hosted by icddr,b.

The delegation, led by Ms. Leslie Norton, Assistant Deputy Minister at Global Affairs Canada, met with IFPRI, icddr,b, GAIN, Nutrition International, and World Vision Bangladesh to discuss nutrition priorities and partnerships in Bangladesh.

IFPRI-Bangladesh Research Fellow and Acting Country Representative Dr. Moogdho Mahzab shared evidence from key studies — including TMRI, ANGeL, and the ongoing JIBON study — showing how combining cash transfers, gender-sensitive approaches, and strong delivery systems can improve maternal and child nutrition at scale.

The visit reaffirmed the value of strong partnerships in turning research into real impact for Bangladesh's nutrition future.

IFPRI-Bangladesh participated in the 10th CGIAR Advisory Committee (CAC) Meeting, hosted by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) in Dhaka on 17 May 2026.

The meeting brought together CGIAR Centers, national institutions, and senior government officials — including the Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Rafiqul I Mohamed — to align agricultural research with Bangladesh’s national priorities.

Dr. Moogdho Mahzab, Research Fellow and Acting Country Representative of IFPRI-Bangladesh, highlighted how IFPRI’s research has supported evidence-based policymaking in Bangladesh since 1988, contributing to progress in food security, nutrition, agriculture, and rural development.

Key programs highlighted included the Bangladesh Integrated Household Survey (BIHS), Transfer Modality Research Initiative (TMRI), and Agriculture, Gender and Nutrition Linkages (ANGeL) — all of which have helped inform national policies and programs.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of strong research partnerships in building a more resilient and sustainable food system for Bangladesh.

What makes street food safe? As we approach (June 7), that's an important question. Millions of people in low- and middle-income countries rely on street food every day because it is affordable, convenient, and accessible. But foodborne illness remains a significant challenge, and there is still limited synthesized evidence on what drives safe food hygiene practices among vendors and consumers—and which interventions are most effective.

A newly published review protocol outlines a comprehensive effort to address that gap. The review will examine the factors that influence street food hygiene and assess interventions aimed at improving food safety in low-resource settings.
