Since 1988, IFPRI has had a strong presence in Bangladesh, conducting food policy research, providing policy support, and strengthening stakeholders’ capacity. This on-the-ground presence has allowed IFPRI to generate evidence-based research results on critical on-going food security issues as well as on major unforeseen events.

What makes street food safe? As we approach (June 7), that's an important question. Millions of people in low- and middle-income countries rely on street food every day because it is affordable, convenient, and accessible. But foodborne illness remains a significant challenge, and there is still limited synthesized evidence on what drives safe food hygiene practices among vendors and consumers—and which interventions are most effective.

A newly published review protocol outlines a comprehensive effort to address that gap. The review will examine the factors that influence street food hygiene and assess interventions aimed at improving food safety in low-resource settings.
