We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Khairul Islam, Regional Director of WaterAid South Asia.
A visionary leader, pioneer in public health, and champion for the WASH sector in Bangladesh, Dr. Islam devoted his life to transforming communities and building climate-resilient solutions. His wisdom, warmth, and dedication inspired non-profits, humanitarians, and development practitioners across the region. His departure leaves a profound void in Bangladesh’s development sector. The CARE Bangladesh family extends its sincere sympathies to his family, friends, and the WaterAid team. May his soul rest in peace.

Under Bangladesh’s National Youth Policy, youth is defined as the 18-to-35 age bracket. The 2022 census showed 63.67 percent of the population within that group — a cohort officials see as the country’s most powerful engine for economic growth, productivity and innovation.

One myth inside the development sector suggests that audiences do not want to engage with stories of marginalized communities unless they are framed as “awareness content.” Another myth within parts of the entertainment industry assumes that films connected to advocacy or development themes inevitably lose commercial appeal and audience engagement.

Cha Gorom, a film by Shankha Dasgupta, co-created by Oxfam and Chorki with support from the European Union, has challenged both myths.

​ঈদ মানেই চেনা টানে, নাড়ির টানে প্রিয়জনদের কাছে ফিরে যাওয়া। শত ব্যস্ততা আর ক্লান্তি একপাশে সরিয়ে রেখে সবস্তরের মানুষের সাথে ঈদের এই আনন্দ ভাগাভাগি করে নেওয়ার মাঝেই লুকিয়ে আছে আসল সার্থকতা।

​এই ঈদুল আজহায় আমাদের চারপাশের সুবিধাবঞ্চিত ও সাধারণ মানুষের মুখে হাসি ফোটানোই হোক আমাদের অন্যতম অঙ্গীকার। ত্যাগের মহিমায় উদ্ভাসিত হোক প্রতিটি প্রাণ, প্রতিটি পরিবারে আসুক অনাবিল শান্তি ও সমৃদ্ধি।
