🌱🌍 World Environment Day 2026 Celebrated by UGGP, Nari Maitree 🌍🌱

Following the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.", in the UGG Programme with the support of Concern and Irish Aid, Nari Maitree proudly celebrated World Environment Day 2026 across its three working zones—Khilgaon, Hazaribag, and Lalbagh.

The celebration brought together 150 direct participants, including Green Volunteers and Change Makers, and 120 indirect participants, including youth, children, and community members. The event was enriched by the presence of distinguished stakeholders, including representatives from local government (Zonal Officer and Deputy Secretary Akter Unnessa, Zone-2)" -Zone 2, health services, ward councilor offices ( Assistant Health Officer Dr. Sadat), community leaders, and relevant NGOs(World Vision, PSTC, SAJEDA Foundation, Youth Environment and Development Organization ( YEDO).

The day featured a vibrant environmental rally, discussion session, tree plantation campaign, awareness drama, and an exciting quiz competition, all aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and climate action.

Together, we reaffirmed our commitment to protecting nature, combating climate change, and building a sustainable future for generations to come. 🌳💚

We are thrilled to launch our new, high-impact animation video dedicated to transforming Bangladesh’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system! Designed for policymakers, government stakeholders, civil society leaders, and the public, this engaging digital visualizer brings to life the real-world hurdles faced by everyday families—from new parents trying to register a newborn during routine immunization visits to grieving families navigating administrative burdens during moments of loss.
More importantly, the video spotlights our core, sustainable policy solution: legally designating all public and private health facilities as "Primary Informants" for automatic birth and death notifications. By seamlessly linking birth and death data directly to local registrars, we can instantly eliminate bureaucratic delays, close the registration gap, and secure an undisputed legal identity for our country's most vulnerable populations.
This milestone production is a testament to the power of collaboration. We extend our heartiest gratitude and deepest thanks to the Global Health Advocacy Incubator for their incredible partnership and invaluable technical support. GHAI has stood firmly beside us as we amplify civil society's voice and champion the finalization of the crucial draft CRVS Ordinance.

নিষ্পাপ শিশু রামিসাকে নির্মমভাবে ধর্ষণ ও হত্যার জঘন্যতম ঘটনার প্রতিবাদে এবং দেশের সকল শিশু ধর্ষণ ও হত্যার বিচার সুনিশ্চিত করার দাবিতে রাজধানী ভাটারা এলাকায় নারী মৈত্রী-এর উদ্যোগে এক বিশাল প্রতিবাদ সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে।

এই নৃশংসতার বিরুদ্ধে তীব্র ক্ষোভ ও প্রতিবাদের ভাষা নিয়ে সভায় স্বতঃস্ফূর্তভাবে অংশ নেন স্থানীয় সর্বস্তরের জনগণ, সচেতন কিশোর-কিশোরী, যুব ক্লাবের সদস্যবৃন্দ এবং এডুকো বাংলাদেশের প্রতিনিধি রাফেজা আক্তার।

আমাদের একটাই জোরালো দাবি:
🚨 শিশু রামিসাসহ এ যাবৎ ঘটে যাওয়া সকল শিশুর ধর্ষণকারী ও খুনিদের দ্রুততম সময়ে দৃষ্টান্তমূলক ও সর্বোচ্চ শাস্তি নিশ্চিত করতে হবে।
🚨 শিশুদের জন্য একটি নিরাপদ সমাজ ও রাষ্ট্র গড়ে তুলতে হবে, যেখানে আর কোনো মায়ের বুক খালি হবে না।

একটি সুস্থ ও নিরাপদ সমাজ বিনির্মাণে অপরাধীদের আড়াল করার যেকোনো অপচেষ্টাকে রুখে দিতে হবে। অপরাধীদের দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি না হওয়া পর্যন্ত আমাদের এই লড়াই চলবে। আসুন, শিশুদের সুরক্ষায় এবং অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে আমরা সবাই একতাবদ্ধ হই। ✊🛡️

জনস্বাস্থ্য সুরক্ষা নিশ্চিত করতে এবং দেশের ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মকে তামাকের ভয়াবহ ছোবল থেকে বাঁচাতে তামাকের বিরুদ্ধে একসঙ্গে কাজ করার প্রত্যয় ব্যক্ত করেছেন দেশের সম্মানিত নারী সংসদ সদস্যরা। গত মঙ্গলবার (১৯ মে) ঢাকায় নারী মৈত্রীর আয়োজনে 'তামাকবিরোধী সংসদীয় নারী ফোরাম'-এর এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

সভায় সভাপতিত্ব করেন ফোরামের চেয়ারপারসন ও বিএনপির স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য Begum Selima Rahman । আসন্ন ২০২৬-২০২৭ অর্থবছরের বাজেটকে সামনে রেখে তামাকজাত দ্রব্যে কর ও মূল্যবৃদ্ধির বিষয়ে সভায় জোর দাবি জানানো হয়, যা তামাক নিয়ন্ত্রণের অন্যতম কার্যকর ও পরীক্ষিত উপায়।

সভায় উঠে আসা মূল বার্তাগুলো:
📌 জনস্বাস্থ্য সুরক্ষা ও আইন: শুধু আইন পাস করাই যথেষ্ট নয়, তামাক নিয়ন্ত্রণ একটি চলমান যুদ্ধ। মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর নেতৃত্বে এই যুদ্ধে আমাদের জয় নিশ্চিত করতে হবে।
📌 ই-সিগারেট ও ভ্যাপের অভিনব কৌশল: হার্ম রিডাকশন (Harm Reduction)-এর নামে তামাক কোম্পানিগুলো ই-সিগারেট, ভ্যাপ, নিকোটিন পাউচের মাধ্যমে কিশোর-তরুণদের বিভ্রান্ত করছে। জনস্বাস্থ্য সুরক্ষার স্বার্থে কোনো প্রকার তামাকজাত পণ্যেই ছাড় দেওয়া সম্ভব নয়।
📌 অর্থনৈতিক ও সামাজিক ক্ষতি: তামাকের ক্ষতি কেবল ব্যক্তিগত স্বাস্থ্যঝুঁকির মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ নয়; এটি পরিবার, সমাজ এবং রাষ্ট্রীয় অর্থনীতির ওপরও মারাত্মক নেতিবাচক প্রভাব ফেলে।

উক্ত সভায় তামাকবিরোধী সংসদীয় নারী ফোরামের রাশেদা বেগম হীরা, নেওয়াজ হালিমা আরলী, ফরিদা ইয়াসমীন, Nilufar Chowdhury Moni, সাবিরা সুলতানা, সানসিলা জেবরিন, Sanjida Islam Tulee MP , ফাহমিদা হক, ফেরদৌসী আহমেদ, জহরত আদিব চৌধুরী, আরিফা সুলতানা, সানজিদা ইয়াসমিন, Adv Shacotara Urmi , মাধবী মার্মা এবং রেজেকা সুলতানা উপস্থিত ছিলেন। পাশাপাশি উপস্থিত ছিলেন নারী মৈত্রীর নির্বাহী পরিচালক শাহীন আকতার ডলি। এছাড়াও নারী সাংবাদিক ফোরামের সাধারণ সম্পাদক লাবিন রহমান এবং তামাকবিরোধী ইয়ুথ ফোরামের তরুণ সদস্যরা এই আয়োজনে অংশ নেন।

তামাকের আগ্রাসন রুখতে এবং একটি সুস্থ, তামাকমুক্ত সমাজ গঠনে নারী মৈত্রী সর্বদা প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ। আসুন, ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের জন্য আমরা সবাই মিলে তামাকের বিরুদ্ধে সোচ্চার হই। 💪🤝

We are proud to highlight our recent "Empowering Communities for DR-TB" dialogues held across in different place of Dhaka, where local voices took center stage in the fight against tuberculosis. In partnership with the Fast Track the Cure initiative, we gathered influential community leaders, resilient survivors, and frontliaste health workers to ensure that the rollout of the revolutionary 6-month, all-oral BPaL/M regimen is shaped by the needs of those it serves. From the lanes of the urban slum to our strategic health hubs, we are breaking down barriers of stigma and building a foundation of trust. By empowering our "BPaL/M Ambassadors" and listening directly to community feedback, we are making life-saving treatment more accessible, shorter, and simpler for everyone. Our mission remains steadfast: to find every "missing case" and ensure that no one walks the path to recovery alone. Together, with the community leading the way, we are writing a new chapter for a TB-free Bangladesh.

We were honored to host a distinguished delegation from the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh, led by Hanna Norell, at our UN Women Multipurpose Women’s Centre (MPWC) in Camp 18. This visit provided a powerful platform for our Rohingya Gender Volunteers and women leaders to showcase how they are transforming their community through education, respect, and leadership. From touring our "one-stop" integrated service hub to engaging with participants of the Engaging Men through Accountable Practice (EMAP) initiative, the delegation witnessed firsthand the resilience and aspirations of women who are preparing to lead their own future. A heartfelt thank you to UN Women Bangladesh for their unwavering partnership in making this impactful exchange possible.

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of a two-day intensive training on Ex-Post Evaluation for enumerators, focusing on the Cohort 1 participants of the Urban Green Graduation Programme (UGGP). Organized by Nari Maitree, this training brought together partners from SEEP and CUP, with the invaluable support of Concern Worldwide and Irish Aid

The qualitative component of this evaluation is critical to our mission. It aims to assess the long-term sustainability of key outcomes, understand the drivers that help participants maintain their graduation status, and explore any challenges or vulnerabilities faced after exiting the program. Furthermore, the training emphasized examining gender and social inclusion outcomes to ensure that our future programming remains inclusive and impactful. This process allows us to contextualize quantitative findings and generate vital learnings for the next phase of our journey. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the facilitators from Concern’s MEAL Team—Shahid Mahmood (Technical Adviser-MEAL) and Suraiya Khatun (Programme Specialist)—for their expert guidance. With the active participation of Nari Maitree and SEEP’s management, we are now better equipped to measure the true transformation in the lives of the urban poor and refine our strategies for a more sustainable and resilient future.
