The Children Behind The Brands
From Aquafina to Zara
Plastic Bottle Recycling and the Children They Exploit

On the morning of Tuesday 14th July, Friends of Street Children Bangladesh and LEEDO will launch a new report in the UK Parliament examining the role of children living on the streets of Dhaka in the sale and collection of plastic bottles.

The report traces the journey of these bottles from the streets of Dhaka through recycling chains and into products sold by major high street brands.

Places for the event will be limited. If you are interested in attending, please contact us at [email protected] by 2nd June.

The launch will take place during a visit to the UK by LEEDO Executive Director, Forhad Hossain, with further events to be announced in due course.

LEEDO, 𝐚 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, has been working tirelessly for these special needs children. Instead of focusing on their limitations, LEEDO prioritizes their potential. Guided by this commitment, LEEDO has established an 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥, where every special child gets the opportunity to develop their intellect, creativity, and talent. Here, they do not just study; they also learn handicrafts, participate in sports and recreation, and build a bright future filled with self-confidence.

Because they are not lagging behind they are immensely talented and full of great potential. And to nurture that potential, LEEDO has been working relentlessly for the past 25 years.

প্রতিটি শিশুই এই পৃথিবীতে সমান অধিকার নিয়ে জন্মায়।
তবে আমাদের সমাজে কিছু শিশু আছে, যারা একটু বেশি যত্ন, ভালোবাসা ও সহযোগিতার প্রয়োজন অনুভব করে তারা হলো বিশেষ চাহিদাসম্পন্ন শিশু। এই বিশেষ চাহিদাসম্পন্ন শিশুদের নিয়েই নিরলসভাবে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে LEEDO, একটি non-profitable organization। তাদের সীমাবদ্ধতা নয়, বরং সম্ভাবনাকেই গুরুত্ব দেয় LEEDO। এই অঙ্গীকার থেকেই LEEDO গড়ে তুলেছে একটি Inclusive School, যেখানে প্রতিটি বিশেষ শিশু নিজের মেধা, সৃজনশীলতা ও প্রতিভা বিকাশের সুযোগ পায়। এখানে তারা শুধু পড়ালেখাই নয়, শেখে হাতের কাজ, অংশ নেয় খেলাধুলা ও বিনোদনে, আর গড়ে তোলে আত্মবিশ্বাসে ভরা একটি সুন্দর ভবিষ্যৎ।
কারণ, তারা কেউ পিছিয়ে নয় তারা ভীষণ মেধাবী, ভীষণ সম্ভাবনাময়। আর সেই সম্ভাবনাকে এগিয়ে নিতে গত ২৫ বছর ধরে নিরলসভাবে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে LEEDO। আসুন, আমরা সবাই মিলে এমন একটি সমাজ গড়ি, যেখানে প্রতিটি শিশুর স্বপ্ন দেখার অধিকার সমানভাবে নিশ্চিত হয়।

Children, Netra News underprivileged children and children with special needs may be described differently, but at the core of their identity, they are all simply “children.” A child is not only the dream of a family, but also the future of a nation and a shining star of a state. These small hands of today will shape the humanity, leadership and civilization of tomorrow. Yet even today, countless children are deprived of their basic rights education, safety, love and protection. Underprivileged children continue to grow up struggling against poverty, neglect, insecurity and discrimination. The reality is even more painful for many girls, who grow up facing fear, abuse and uncertainty every day. A society that cannot ensure the safety and dignity of its children can never truly be considered developed. Children do not ask for charity; they ask for rights. They do not seek neglect; they seek love. They do not want pity; they want a safe and dignified life. For this reason, LEEDO has been working tirelessly for the past 25 years to restore the rights of underprivileged children and children with special needs, ensuring their fundamental rights and well-being. Because every child matters and within every child’s smile lies the dream of a brighter future.

শিশু, সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিশু এবং বিশেষ চাহিদাসম্পন্ন শিশু শব্দগুলো আলাদা হলেও তাদের পরিচয়ের মূল জায়গাটি একটাই, তারা সবাই “শিশু”।
একটি শিশু শুধু একটি পরিবারের স্বপ্ন নয়, একটি দেশের ভবিষ্যৎ, একটি রাষ্ট্রের উজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্র। আজকের এই ছোট ছোট হাতই আগামী দিনের মানবতা, নেতৃত্ব ও সভ্যতাকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাবে।

তবুও আজও অসংখ্য শিশু তাদের মৌলিক অধিকার, শিক্ষা, নিরাপত্তা, ভালোবাসা ও সুরক্ষা থেকে বঞ্চিত। সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিশুরা প্রতিনিয়ত দারিদ্র্য, অবহেলা, অনিরাপত্তা ও বৈষম্যের সাথে লড়াই করে বড় হচ্ছে। আর মেয়ে শিশুদের বাস্তবতা আরও বেশি কষ্টের, যেখানে অনেকেই প্রতিদিন ভয়, নির্যাতন ও অনিশ্চয়তার মধ্যে বেড়ে উঠছে।
যে সমাজ তার শিশুদের নিরাপত্তা ও মর্যাদা নিশ্চিত করতে পারে না, সেই সমাজ কখনোই সত্যিকারের উন্নত হতে পারে না।
শিশুরা করুণা নয়, অধিকার চায়।
অবহেলা নয়, ভালোবাসা চায়।
দয়া নয়, নিরাপদ ও সম্মানজনক জীবন চায়।

আর তাই প্রতিটি সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিশু ও বিশেষ চাহিদাসম্পন্ন শিশুর অধিকার ফিরিয়ে দিতে এবং তাদের মৌলিক অধিকার নিশ্চিত করতে গত ২৫ বছর ধরে নিরলসভাবে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে LEEDO।
কারণ প্রতিটি শিশুই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, আর প্রতিটি শিশুর হাসির মধ্যেই লুকিয়ে আছে একটি সুন্দর ভবিষ্যতের স্বপ্ন।

On 12/05/2026, the LEEDO family lost a truly compassionate soul Nazmul Karim (Helal) Sir.
His love, kindness and silent contributions toward underprivileged children will always be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.
His passing has created an irreplaceable void in our hearts.May Allah grant him Jannatul Ferdous.

Bringing forward the voices of underprivileged children is the purpose behind our journey.
Some children from the LEEDO Shelter Home are currently receiving training in journalism, and as part of this initiative, they have joined a special talk show on ATN Bangla. In this program, the children ask questions while the guests share their answers, experiences, and perspectives.
Because we believe that listening to children and creating opportunities for them to express their thoughts is also a way of ensuring their rights.
Thank you for standing beside us in supporting the dreams, courage, and potential of underprivileged children.

সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিশুদের কণ্ঠস্বরকে সামনে আনতেই আমাদের এই পথচলা। LEEDO Shelter Home-এর কিছু শিশু বর্তমানে জার্নালিজম বিষয়ক প্রশিক্ষণ নিচ্ছে এবং সেই ধারাবাহিকতায় তারা যুক্ত হয়েছে ATN Bangla-এর একটি বিশেষ টকশোতে। এই আয়োজনে শিশুরাই প্রশ্ন করে, আর অতিথিরা তুলে ধরেন তাদের উত্তর, অভিজ্ঞতা ও ভাবনা। কারণ আমরা বিশ্বাস করি, শিশুদের কথা শোনা এবং তাদের ভাবনা প্রকাশের সুযোগ করে দেওয়াও এক ধরনের অধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠা। সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিশুদের স্বপ্ন, সাহস ও সম্ভাবনাকে এগিয়ে নিতে পাশে থাকার জন্য ধন্যবাদ।
