Strengthening Community Resilience in Camp Settlements!

As part of our joint effort to strengthen community resilience in camp settlement, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS) with the support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), American Red Cross in collaboration with UNHCR in Bangladesh, Acted, ActionAid Bangladesh and BRAC has initiated a comprehensive Capacity Sharing Initiative on “Multi-hazard Preparedness, Anticipatory Action, and Response” for the Youths, Women, and Teachers in order to develop harmonized understanding and motivate them to engage with the community.

By empowering local thematic members with knowledge and practical skills, collective goal is to enhance community resilience and ensure communities are better prepared to respond to emergencies and protect lives.

This initiative brings together teachers, youth and women thematic group members to strengthen their understanding of disaster risks and effective emergency response mechanisms within the camp context. Which marks an important step toward building safer, stronger, and more resilient communities through preparedness, inclusive participation, and community-led action.

Capacity Strengthening Initiative focused on key multi-hazard preparedness thematic areas, including: đŸŒĒī¸CycloneđŸ”ĨFire 🌊Floodâ›°ī¸Landslideâš ī¸Drowning⚡Lightning 🚸Road safety and đŸŒĄī¸Heat Health.

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS), under the leadership of the Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR), successfully completed a full-scale simulation following the Cyclone National Early Action Protocol (NEAP), in collaboration with the Anticipatory Action Technical Working Group (AATWG), in Sreeula Union, Asasuni Upazila, Satkhira, from 16 to 22 April, followed by an After Action Review (AAR) workshop on 23 April.

The simulation replicated a real time cyclone scenario from early formation to landfall-testing our collective ability to take timely anticipatory actions, strengthen coordination, and ensure effective early warning dissemination at all levels.

Through this exercise, we were able to:
â€ĸ Test trigger-based decision making and early action activation
â€ĸ Strengthen coordination from national to community level
â€ĸ Assess operational readiness for evacuation and shelter support
â€ĸ Promote inclusive approaches, ensuring support for vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities

Throughout the simulation, the Red Crescent Youth Volunteers and CPP volunteers disseminated early warning to the community, explored community initiated early actions, helped community to evacuate to the cyclone shelter, provide first aid support in the shelter and coordinated the overall shelter management.

This simulation marks a significant step forward in enhancing preparedness and ensuring that anticipatory actions can reduce the impact of future cyclones on at-risk communities.

BDRCS remains committed to advancing anticipatory action and building a safer, more resilient Bangladesh.

🌸 Observation of International Women’s Day 2026 | PGI Fair 🌸

On 13 April 2026, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS) proudly celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 with a vibrant PGI Fair at the National Headquarters, Dhaka.

This year, with the theme “RIGHTS. JUSTICE. ACTION. For All Women and Girls” and the slogan , we reaffirm our commitment to Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI) by promoting Dignity, Access, Participation, and Safety (DAPS) for all. The PGI Fair brings together staff and volunteers to reflect, learn, and engage on key issues including gender equality, diversity, disability inclusion, and safeguarding.

Through interactive sessions, discussions, and exhibitions, we are strengthening our collective understanding that inclusive humanitarian action is essential for building resilient communities.
The inauguration session was honored by the presence of Dr. Kabir M. Ashraf Alam, ndc, Secretary General of BDRCS. Respected representatives from the RÃļda Korset, the British Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Directors from HR and Admin, Health, International Relation and Communication, DCRM department shared their valuable insights. NHQ level staff of BDRCS were present in this event.

At BDRCS, we believe:
✨ Equality is a right, not a privilege
✨ Inclusion makes our work stronger
✨ Empowered individuals build stronger communities

Gender equality is not just a women’s issue-it is a human rights issue and a development priority. When women are empowered, communities become stronger, more resilient, and more inclusive. Ms. Farzana Akther, Deputy Director, HR and PGI Focal of BDRCS were facilitated the events.

On this International Women’s Day, let us continue to challenge inequality, celebrate diversity, and take meaningful action toward a more inclusive and equitable future.
