OUR TIGERS ARE THRIVING AGAIN

The Sundarbans has recorded 125 tigers in its latest official survey, up from 114 in 2018. For a species confined to one of the smallest and most fragile habitats left in the world, this growth reflects years of sustained effort, not luck. Stronger habitat protection, restoration of natural river flow, and a newly formed Wildlife Commission have all played a part in this recovery.

Tigers sit at the top of the Sundarbans food chain, which makes them a clear indicator of the forest's overall health. A rising tiger population is a sign that the surrounding ecosystem, from mangrove trees to fish to smaller wildlife, is holding together as well.

The progress is real, but it remains fragile. Habitat fragmentation, rising salinity from climate change, and human-tiger conflict continue to threaten the gains made so far. The tigers came back because people chose to protect them. Whether they stay depends on whether that commitment continues.

Dhaka Commerce College Nature Study Club recognizes both the progress made and the work still ahead.

Please take a moment today to keep Chattogram in your prayers. Pray for their safety, for quick relief, and for the water levels to drop.

​It’s hard to see the images of a father carrying his child through floodwaters or families watching their homes sustain damage without feeling a profound sense of responsibility. The ongoing floods in the Chittagong division remind us of how fragile things can be, but also how crucial human connection is during a crisis.
