The Department of Environment and Development Studies (EDS) of United International University (UIU), in collaboration with the Environment, Development and Sustainability Club (EDS Club), organised the “Youth Symposium on Environment, Development and Sustainability” yesterday at the UIU campus, United City, Madani Avenue, Dhaka-1212.

Mr Ulrich Klepmann, Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Dhaka, attended as the Chief Guest. Mr Md Abdul Quayyum, Head of Communications at UNDP Bangladesh, and Dr Haseeb Md Irfanullah, Visiting Research Fellow at the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, were present as Special Guests. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr Shantanu Saha, Head of the Department of Environment and Development Studies, and the vote of thanks was given by Prof Dr Hamidul Huq, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at UIU.

🌱 Youth Symposium on Environment, Development & Sustainability 2026 🌍

UIU Environment, Development & Sustainability Club (EDS Club) and Department of Environment and Development Studies-EDS, UIU successfully organized the “Youth Symposium on Environment, Development & Sustainability 2026” at the UIU campus with the participation of around 200 students, youth leaders, academics, and development practitioners from across Dhaka.

The event featured interactive workshops, panel discussions, networking sessions, a Climate & SDG Quiz Competition, and engaging conversations on sustainability, climate justice, development, governance, and youth leadership.

We were honored to have distinguished guests including Ulrich Klepmann (German Embassy Dhaka), Md. Abdul Quayyum (UNDP Bangladesh), and Dr. Hasib Irfanullah (ULAB), along with speakers and facilitators from leading development organizations.

During the symposium, Ulrich Klepmann encouraged young people to believe in themselves and become the change-makers of the future, while Md. Abdul Quayyum highlighted that failures are part of the journey toward success and inspired youth to stay committed to their aspirations.

In the career session, Sumaiya Binte Selim Sudha emphasized the importance of passion in the development sector, and Shah Rafayat Chowdhury spoke about trust, dedication, and perseverance as the key qualities for success.

The symposium also honored three inspiring young individuals with the “Youth Excellence Award” in recognition of their contributions to climate justice, community development, and youth empowerment.

We sincerely thank all speakers, collaborators, volunteers, participants, and organizers for making this symposium successful and impactful. Together, we believe youth leadership can create a more sustainable and inclusive future. 💚
