I am cordially inviting everyone to the opening of the group exhibition titled “PSA: Beyond the Gaze 2023-2024.” The opening ceremony will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 6:30 PM at La Galerie. The exhibition will be followed by a six-month workshop that welcomes young photographers and lens-based artists from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
This has been a deeply important and emotional journey for me as a mentor and initiator, imagining a shared regional platform for lens-based practitioners in South Asia. Together with my dear friend Soumya Sankar Bose, I initiated the platform titled “Beyond the Gaze,” inviting ten enthusiastic young practitioners from the region. We were privileged to invite leading visual artists, photographers, historians, anthropologists, art lawyers, photobook publishers, filmmakers, and curators to share their insights.
We embarked on an intense six-month journey together. We shared our experiences, motivated each other, and faced many challenges, but through it all, we grew together. Each participant has developed a new body of work that will be presented in the exhibition.
This initiative received generous support from PSA-Photo South Asia, with additional backing from our exhibition and workshop partners, Kiran Nadar Museum, Delhi, and Alliance Française de Dhaka.
