As Cyclone Remal approached, we arrived in Debpur village in Dhankhali Upazila, Bangladesh, and were immediately struck by the stark contrast between the official warnings of impending devastation and the villagers' apparent lack of preparedness. Over the following days, amidst the unfolding chaos, we documented the lives of individuals grappling with the imminent threat of destruction. This film captures the overbearing anxiety that grips entire communities in the face of an approaching cyclone. Through intimate encounters and candid interviews, we witness firsthand the resilience and fear of those directly in Remal's path. Their voices echo the overwhelming power of nature and the human spirit in adversity.

In the final week of November, a significant climatic milestone was reached as global temperatures exceeded 2°C above pre-industrial levels for the first time. This surge beyond the crucial 2°C limit brings into sharp focus the severe impacts of climate change, particularly in Bangladesh. Situated in a region vulnerable to escalating sea levels and harsh weather conditions, the country is engaged in an ongoing battle for existence and adaptation.

Within these challenging circumstances, however, lie stories of remarkable resilience and bravery. The power of storytelling is immense, especially in significant climate forums like COP28, where the presentation of real-life cases plays a crucial role in discussions. This year is particularly pivotal with the activation of the Loss and Damage fund, underscoring the need to share the experiences of those most affected by climate adversity.

BRAC has taken a commendable step in this direction, unveiling an essential climate series in anticipation of COP28. This series aims to highlight the experiences of individuals who are enduring the consequences of a crisis they had no hand in creating. It includes the narrative of a farmer battling against 'fire dust', a woman compelled to undergo a hysterectomy due to increased salinity, and a family who, having survived four cyclones, now face the challenge of starting anew in an urban slum.
