It doesn’t have to happen face-to-face to be real. Repeated messages, threats, unwanted attention, public shaming, or constant monitoring online can create the same fear, stress, and pressure as in-person harassment.

What makes it harassment is not the distance, it’s the impact and the pattern. When someone ignores boundaries, keeps showing up uninvited, or uses digital spaces to intimidate or control, that harm is real.

The screen creates distance for the person causing harm, not protection for the person experiencing it.

The 16 Days of Activism remind us that violence doesn’t disappear when a campaign ends. Online harassment, threats, humiliation, and intimidation don’t follow a calendar; they happen every day.

Cyber respect means:
- Refusing to normalize abuse in comment sections
- Reporting harmful content instead of ignoring it
- Respecting privacy and consent
- Challenging online hostility, even when it’s uncomfortable

Digital spaces are part of public life. The way we behave there shapes who feels safe enough to participate. When attention fades after 16 days, harmful behavior often returns to being overlooked. Ending online abuse requires everyday responsibility, not seasonal
attention.

Commitment shouldn’t expire.
Respect shouldn’t be temporary.
Safety shouldn’t depend on campaigns.
Let the conversation continue long after the hashtags fade.

In today’s fast-paced digital world, posts and information can spread within minutes—often before anyone understands the full impact. When content is shared without care, it can lead to misunderstandings, misinformation, and unnecessary stress.

But the same networks that amplify problems can also promote positive action.

Online accountability means choosing not to share questionable content, taking the time to report harmful material, and showing support for people who may be affected. It’s a reminder that what we do online influences real people in meaningful ways.

- Every click matters.
- Every report matters.
- Every act of support matters.

If information can spread quickly online, then responsible actions should move just as fast.

Just because something happens on a screen doesn’t mean consent matters less.

Online consent means:
- Asking before online sharing
- Respecting the meaning of “no”
- Understanding that private content stays private unless clearly agreed otherwise

Silence is not consent. Past permission is not permanent permission. And digital access is not an entitlement.

Too often, online violations are minimized as misunderstandings, where any emotional distress, reputational damage, and safety risks don’t disappear because the interaction was digital.

On this day in 1971, a dream was etched in red and green. As the sun rises this March 26th, we honour the brave souls who traded their today for our tomorrow. Their courage turned a whisper of freedom into a roar of independence.

Today, we don’t just celebrate a date; we celebrate the resilience of a nation that refused to stay silent. Let us carry that legacy forward with pride and unity.

Happy Independence Day, Bangladesh! 🇧🇩

Awareness starts the conversation, but action is what creates change.

It starts with small, everyday actions:
- Reporting abusive or harmful content
- Refusing to share misinformation or private content
- Supporting someone who is being targeted
- Setting and respecting boundaries online
- Using privacy and security tools to protect yourself and others

Awareness tells us what’s wrong.
Action is what begins to fix it.

Technology is meant to connect, create, and solve problems. But without responsibility, the same tools can be used to harm through spreading misinformation, enabling harassment, violating privacy, or targeting individuals at scale.

The issue isn’t the technology itself. It’s how it’s used.

A comment can turn into coordinated abuse.
A shared image can become exploitative.
A simple tool can be used for surveillance or control.

When ethics are missing, power becomes unbalanced. Those with access, anonymity, or influence can misuse digital spaces without immediate consequences, while others are left dealing with the impact.

So, technology should expand possibilities, not become a tool for damage.

In the rush to react, share, or comment, it’s easy to forget that what goes online doesn’t stay small. A quick post can spread fast, reach the wrong audience, or affect someone in ways we didn’t intend.

Before posting, take a moment:
Is it true?
Is it necessary?
Could it harm someone’s privacy or dignity?
Would you say it the same way offline?

Once it’s out there, it’s hard to take back. And even deleted posts or comments can leave a lasting impact. A few seconds of pause can prevent long-term consequences. Not everything needs to be posted. Not every reaction needs to be public.

Think beyond the moment.
Post with responsibility.

For many women today, the digital space is a workplace, a marketplace, and a platform for leadership. It is where businesses grow, careers develop, and ideas reach global audiences. When harassment, threats, or technology-facilitated gender-based violence push women offline, the harm is not only personal, it is economic.

International law recognizes that women have the right to participate fully in economic life. Under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), Article 11 guarantees women’s equal right to employment and opportunity, and Article 13 affirms their right to participate in economic and social life. In today’s world, that participation includes digital platforms.

Exclusion from online spaces limits income, visibility, innovation, and leadership.
Silencing women online is not just social harm; it is structural inequality.
