Inna lillahi wa Inna ilahi rajiun

Begum Khaleda Zia was more than a political leader, she was a symbol of resilience in Bangladesh’s democratic journey. As the country’s first woman Prime Minister and a three-time head of government, she broke barriers at a time when leadership spaces were rarely open to women.

She led the struggle to restore democracy against autocratic rule and made decisions that shaped the nation’s progress. Her introduction of free education and stipends for girls remains a landmark achievement, contributing significantly to the advancement of women’s education across Bangladesh.

For many generations, especially young girls, her presence in the highest office of the state was a powerful reminder that leadership knows no gender.

Today, as we mourn, we remember her legacy, her strength, and her role in shaping the nation’s democratic consciousness.
May she rest in peace, and may history judge her with fairness and truth.

We at No Passport Voice express our profound grief and condemnation in response to the tragic and deeply troubling events unfolding across Bangladesh.

We pay our solemn homage to Shaheed Osman Hadi, whose untimely death following a targeted shooting has shaken the conscience of the nation.

At the same time, we unequivocally condemn the cycle of violence in Dhaka and other parts of the country. The attacks on media institutions, including Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, are attacks on press freedom itself.

We also strongly condemn the vandalism of cultural institutions such as Chhayanaut, spaces that represent creativity, pluralism, and collective memory. Equally alarming and utterly unacceptable is the lynching of a member of the Hindu community, Dipu C. Das in Mymensingh. Mob violence and communal targeting violate the most basic principles of humanity, equality, and the rule of law.

We stand for justice without vengeance, accountability without chaos, and peace without silence.

We at No Passport Voice Foundation are deeply saddened by the devastating fire in Dhaka’s Korail slum (bosti), which raged for over five hours and destroyed hundreds of makeshift homes.

The incident has once again shown how unsafe and forgotten our urban poor truly are. Tin houses packed together, narrow lanes with no space to escape; families lost everything within minutes. Children stood on the road watching their entire world burn.

These families didn’t just lose tin and wood, they lost years of survival, dignity, and stability.
We cannot look away. We must act now.

🇧🇩 1 Year Since the Mass Uprising

On this day, we honour the martyrs and the fearless voices who rose against oppression, injustice, and anarchy.

You lit the flame of courage. You stood unshaken. You gave hope to a generation.

Today, we don’t just remember, we rise. In your name, in your spirit, we keep fighting for a just and accountable Bangladesh.

No child should leave home for school and return with injuries or not return at all.

The crash of a training aircraft near Milestone School is not just an unfortunate incident, it is a national tragedy rooted in systemic negligence.

A young trainee pilot lost his life. Schoolchildren were injured, some severely, some dead. Families are in shock. A community has been left reeling.

We extend our deepest solidarity to all affected families those who have lost, those who are still in fear, and those whose children now carry invisible emotional scars.

This isn’t just about one flight or one crash. It’s about the failure of protocols, the reckless approval of training flights over densely populated school zones, and an infrastructure that values convenience over life.

And in the aftermath, the media’s insensitivity has only added to the pain. The distorted image of children circulating over social media is disturbing and very insensitive. These images are not “breaking news” they are someone’s child, someone’s trauma.

These tragedies leave lifelong trauma, and yet society continues to respond with fleeting outrage, no reform, and dangerous complacency.

Children’s safety must be sacred not situational.
Lives must come before convenience.
And empathy must define both our policies and our journalism.
