🌍World Hypertension Day 2026

This year's theme is "Controlling Hypertension Together: Check Your Blood Pressure Regularly, Defeat the silent killer.”

Around 283,800 people in Bangladesh died from cardiovascular diseases in 2024, and 52% of those deaths were linked to hypertension.
High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because it may not show symptoms until serious complications occur. Regular blood pressure monitoring, healthy eating, physical activity, stress management, and avoiding to***co can help prevent hypertension and protect your heart.

Let's try to live a healthy life and make our everyday life better.

"Autism is not a weakness; we are uniquely gifted."

World Autism Day, established by the United Nations on April 2, aims to spread positivity, understanding, and acceptance of individuals with autism.
This year’s theme is “Autism and Humanity- Every Life Has Value,” which means that every person with autism deserves equal dignity, respect, and opportunities. It is our responsibility to build a society that supports neurodiversity and ensures no one is left behind.
Let’s move beyond awareness towards true acceptance and inclusion. Giving them a peaceful environment where we listen and support each other, and making a world where every mind matters.

Va**ng and mental health: A cross-sectional study among university students in Bangladesh

📅Published: March 6, 2026
🎫DOI https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0343502
📶Published in: PLOS One

🙍‍♂️Authors: Farah Sabrina, Mohammad Delwer Hossain Hawlader, Md. Nur Alam, Md. Farhan Ibne Faruq, Farah Parisha Bhuiyan, Biswajit Banik, Muhammad Aziz Rahman

🔍 Key Findings:
➡️The study found a high prevalence of depression among participants, affecting more than 60% of the sample.
➡️Anxiety was also highly prevalent, with over half of the participants experiencing symptoms.
➡️A large proportion of respondents reported psychological distress, with prevalence reaching around three-quarters of the sample.
➡️Va**ng behavior was significantly associated with increased levels of depression, anxiety, and psychological distress.
➡️Participants who engaged in both va**ng and smoking exhibited higher levels of depression (AOR 1.93; 95% CI 1.04–3.57), and those without a preexisting mental health condition were associated with severe anxiety (AOR 2.00, 95% CI 1.25–3.20).
➡️Va**ng was strongly associated with other risk behaviors, particularly alcohol consumption and recreational drug use.
➡️Overall, the findings indicate that substance use, especially va**ng, is linked to a higher burden of mental health problems among university students.

Barriers and Facilitators to Dengue Prevention Strategies in Bangladesh: A Scoping Review with Comparative Analysis of Other Dengue-Prone Regions

📅Published: March 14, 2026

🟦DOI: https://doi.org/10.1186/s12879-026-12632-z

➡️Published in: BMC Infectious Diseases

🙍Authors: Lamisa Rahman, Arpita Goutam, Sumaya Binte Masud, Fahima Nasrin Eva, Md Modabbir Mostofa, Tariful Islam & Mohammad Delwer Hossain Hawlader

🔍 Key Findings:
• Dengue control still relies mainly on community awareness and insecticide use.
• Common misconceptions persist (e.g., Aedes mosquitoes breed only in dirty water).
• Increasing insecticide resistance is reducing effectiveness.
• Limited and fragmented funding hinders sustained efforts.
• Weak multisectoral coordination affects overall response.

💡 Way Forward:
• Promote accurate, community-led awareness.
• Strengthen integrated surveillance systems.
• Ensure sustainable financing and policy support.
• Adopt innovative strategies like Wolbachia-based biocontrol.
👉 Dengue prevention requires a coordinated, long-term public health approach beyond just fogging.
