Domestic Violence has been a common practice throughout the recorded history. Corresponding to the other parts of the world, domestic violence has been one of the major problems that affect the lives of many women both in the urban and the rural areas of Bangladesh. Violence against women and girls in Bangladesh appears to have further increased during the Covid-19 pandemic with NGO hotlines reporting a rise in distressed calls.
A 34-year-old woman, Majeda, approached us recently. She was physically abused by her husband for 17 years and finally she left him. Her family is forcing her to return to her abuser but she took her stand and started her own journey.
Majeda wished to open a food stall so that she can support her son's education and run her family. Unfortunately there was no one to help her financially. In many cases like Majeda's, survivors seeking help are turned away—by family, community, and the police—and can be in even more danger when forced to return to their abuser. Kalyan BD stood by her side and with the help of our donors we could raise 35,000 bdt (407 USD). All the necessary items along with 5 month rent for her food stall has been handed over. Hopefully she will be starting her business this Friday and asked for all of your blessings. Hope she will be successful in her life.
