যৌনকর্মীদের ৪৫ শতাংশ শিশু বয়সেই পেশায় যুক্ত হয়। তাদের মধ্যে ১১ থেকে ১৪ বছর বয়সের মধ্যে এই পেশায় যুক্ত হয় ১৮ দশমিক ৫ শতাংশ মেয়ে শিশু। এছাড়া ১৫ থেকে ১৭ বছর বয়সের ২৬ দশমিক ৫ শতাংশ মেয়ে এই পেশায় প্রবেশ করে। অন্যদিকে, ৩৮ শতাংশ নারী ১৮ থেকে ২১ বছর এবং ১০ শতাংশ নারী ২২ থেকে ২৫ বছর বয়সে এই পেশায় আসেন। সুযোগ পেলে তারা পেশা ছেড়ে দেয়ার কথাও জানান-‘ইউএন উইমেন’ -এর সহযোগিতায় ‘অপরাজেয় বাংলাদেশ’ পরিচালিত এক গবেষণায় এ তথ্য প্রকাশ পায়।
গতকাল মঙ্গলবার রাজধানীর তেজগাঁওয়ে সমকালের সভাকক্ষে ‘যৌনকর্মীদের জীবনমান উন্নয়নে করণীয়’ শীর্ষক গোলটেবিল আলোচনায় গবেষণা প্রতিবেদনের তথ্য প্রকাশ করা হয়। ‘সমকাল’, অপরাজেয় বাংলাদেশ’ এবং ‘ইউএন উইমেন’ গোলটেবিল আয়োজন করে।
অপরাজেয় বাংলাদেশগত এক বছরে জামালপুরের একটি যৌন পল্লীর ২০০ জন যৌনকর্মী এবং ৫০ জন অংশীজনের ওপর করা গবেষণার ফলাফল উপস্থাপন করেন– অপরাজেয় বাংলাদেশের প্রজেক্ট কোঅর্ডিনেটর ফারজানা বাশার। তিনি বলেন, ২০০ জন যৌনকর্মীর মধ্যে ১২৯ জন বিবাহিত, ৩৭ জন তালাকপ্রাপ্ত এবং ৩১ জন অবিবাহিত। তাদের মধ্যে ৪৯ শতাংশ মাসে পাঁচ থেকে ১০ হাজার টাকা আয় করেন। ৩২ দশমিক ৫ শতাংশ নারী আয় করেন ১০ থেকে ১৫ হাজার টাকা। ১২ শতাংশ যৌনকর্মী ১৫ থেকে ২০ টাকা। ৮০ শতাংশ নিয়মিত স্বাস্থ্য সেবা গ্রহণ করে না। ৯০ শতাংশ শৈশবে যৌন নির্যাতনের শিকার হন। অংশগ্রহণকারী কর্মীদের মধ্যে কেউই সামাজিক নিরাপত্তা সুবিধা পাননি। তাদের প্রধান চাহিদা হিসেবে জাতীয় পরিচয়পত্রের কথা বলেছেন ৯৫ শতাংশ , শিশুদের শিক্ষার কথা বলেছেন ৮০ শতাংশ।
সমকালের সম্পাদক শাহেদ মুহাম্মদ আলীর সঞ্চালনায় স্বাগত বক্তব্য দেন অপরাজেয় বাংলাদেশ এর নির্বাহী পরিচালক ওয়াহিদা বানু। গবেষণা প্রতিবেদন উপস্থাপন করেন অপরাজেয় বাংলাদেশের প্রজেক্ট কোঅর্ডিনেটর ফারজানা বাশার।
বক্তব্য দেন পরিবার পরিকল্পনা অধিদপ্তরের পরিচালক (এমসিএইচ-সার্ভিসেস ইউনিট) ডা. মো. সুলতান আহম্মদ, স্থানীয় সরকার বিভাগের অতিরিক্ত সচিব মো. মাহমুদুল হাসান, নারী বিষয়ক সংস্কার কমিশনের সদস্য ডা. হালিদা হালুম আখতার, সিডব্লিউসিএসের প্রেসিডেন্ট অধ্যাপক ইশরাত শামীম, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের জেন্ডার এন্ড উইমেন স্টাডিজ বিভাগের অধ্যাপক তানিয়া হক, প্রাগ্রসরের নির্বাহী পরিচালক ফওজিয়া খন্দকার ইভা প্রমুখ।

🌟 Empowering Marginalized Children for a Brighter Future 🌟
On July 30, 2025, a crucial consultation meeting was held in Dhaka under the Light of Equality through Sponsorship project. Hosted by Aparajeyo-Bangladesh, in collaboration with ARBAN Education & Women Empowerment Programme and Shobujer Ovijan Foundation - SOF, and funded by Terre des Hommes Italia in Bangladesh, the meeting focused on improving education, mental health, and digital safety for marginalized children.
The event was graced by Mrs. Farhana Haque, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, who highlighted the importance of government and NGO collaboration, and emphasized how education and career counseling will help address current challenges.
The consultation brought together government officials, educators, NGO representatives, and civil society members to discuss strategies for ensuring inclusive education and safe learning environments. Key activities discussed included:
Mental health counseling for 3,600 students
Digital safety awareness classes
Career counseling and teacher training
We are proud to be part of this impactful project, working towards a safer, more inclusive educational environment for every child.
