BRAC Head Office BRAC is an international development organization based in Bangladesh. BRAC has operations in 11 countries of the world.

BRAC was subsequently registered under the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of Bangladesh. BRAC is the largest non-governmental development organization in the world, in terms of number of employees as of September 2016.Established by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed in 1972 after the independence of Bangladesh, BRAC is present in all 64 districts of Bangladesh as well as 11 other countries in Asia, Afric

BRAC states that it employs over 90,000 people, roughly 70 percent of whom are women, and that it reaches more than 126 million people with its services.The organisation is partly self-funded through a number of social enterprises that include a dairy and food project, a chain of retail handicraft stores called Aarong, seed and Agro & Seed, and chicken.

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, the founder of BRAC, has been posthumously awarded the Independence Award 2025, the highest civilian award from the Government of Bangladesh, alongside seven other distinguished individuals. He was honoured in recognition of his transformative contributions to social development and nation-building.

Shameran Abed, the Executive Director of BRAC International and son of Abed bhai, received the award on his father’s behalf from Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus on 25 March 2025, at a ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka. The award will reinforce our commitment to supporting those in greatest need.
