Away, but never apart!

The basic idea of this program is to work as a feel-good, uplifting or mood cheering initiative that offers hope, something to look forward to or allow us to feel that we are all in it together. We feel that people with resources and capabilities are willing to come forward to appreciate and recognize our frontline workers - all the people putting their time and energy in dealing with this crisis. And most importantly, a lot of people are putting their wellbeing and health on the line in doing so.

There are real and urgent material needs these fighters on the ground are faced with on a daily basis. At the same time, they are undergoing a lot of mental stress and emotional trauma. The focus of this program will be to try to not only facilitate provision for such essential requirements as well as shed some much needed light on the emotional needs.

We realize that, as we are in the middle of this crisis, our frontline workers may not have that pat on the back day in day out. Maybe no one is holding their hands and giving that comforting press everyday as we go through this phase to say that it all will be alright soon - gestures we often feel that we so need at the very individual level during a dire time like we are in right now.

And on the other side of it, in the larger community – people in general are struggling and looking for signs of hope. All the information sources are feeding news of despair and updates on looming danger. But, we also need stories and soundbites that can make us hopeful again. Maybe even a momentary boost in emotional state, a feel-good update that takes our minds off of the gloominess for a little while. When going gets tough, we often do not remember or have the opportunity to cater to our emotional needs and wellbeing. There is unfortunately a longer term detrimental effect of the creeping anxiety buildup that happens deep down and that’s exactly what we feel is happening collectively in our society right now.
