Today (14 June 2026) to commemorate the World Day Against Child Labour 2026, the SKUS Pooled Fund Education Project which is supported by BRAC, organized a day celebration programme at Camp 15, Jamtoli, Ukhiya, Coxโs Bazar, highlighting the importance of protecting children from child labour and ensuring their right to education, protection, and a safe childhood.
The event brought together learners, parents, community leaders, and representatives from the education sector to raise awareness about the harmful consequences of child labour and the collective responsibility of safeguarding children's futures through education.
The programme was graced by Md. Munibur Rahman, Camp-in-Charge (CiC) of Camp 15, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished participants included Mr. Tariqul Islam, Assistant Director, SKUS; Mr. Saidur Rahman, Project Manager, BRAC Pooled Fund (Education Sector); Mr. Mursheduzzaman, Deputy Manager โ MEAL, Knowledge Management, Reporting and MIS, BRAC Pooled Fund (Education Sector); and Mr. Ruhul Amin, Project Coordinator, SKUS Pooled Fund Education Project. Parents, Block Majhees, community members, and learners from SKUS-supported learning facilities also attended the programme.
In his address, the Chief Guest emphasized the importance of preventing child labour and child marriage, underscoring education as a fundamental right and essential need for every child. He encouraged parents to ensure regular attendance of their children at learning facilities and urged learners to remain committed to their studies, uphold moral values, and strive for a brighter future through education.
Representatives from BRAC and SKUS commended the active participation of parents and community members and highlighted their critical role in supporting children's education. They stressed the need to create a conducive learning environment where children can develop the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become responsible and productive members of society.
Community representatives expressed their appreciation to SKUS and BRAC as well as other actions for their continued efforts in supporting children's education and raising awareness about the negative impacts of child labour and child marriage. They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting education within the Rohingya community as a pathway to a better future for children.
As part of the observance, an art competition was organized for learners, providing them with an opportunity to creatively express messages against child labour through drawings and artwork. The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, where winners were recognized and awarded by the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests.
Through this initiative, SKUS reaffirmed its commitment to promoting children's rights, enhancing community awareness, and supporting access to quality education for Rohingya children.
