Burning fossil fuels for power generation, manufacturing, construction, transportation, and overconsumption is driving global warming, climate change and sea-level rise. As a result, Asha (11) (pseudonym) and her family from Shyamnagar, Satkhira, are paying the price. She carries water barefoot under the scorching midday sun. Asha said, “I have to walk 2 kilometers to collect water for my family every other day. Therefore, I can’t go to school every day. I don’t know how long I will be able to continue my studies.”
From today's report on The Financial Express:
🚩Bangladesh is one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world.
🚩Over 13 million people in coastal areas may be forced to leave their homes by 2050.
🚩The country faces multiple climate threats, including: River and coastal flooding, Sea-level rise, Storm surges, Droughts
🚩Each year, millions of people are displaced due to climate-related disasters.
🚩About one-third of Bangladesh lies only a few meters above sea level.
🚩If global warming continues at the current rate, sea levels could rise by up to 1 meter by the end of the century.
